I opened my eyes slowly, expecting to see light but instead, only darkness awaited me. Wet hair clung to my neck and forehead until I pushed it away and wiped the water out of my eyes. My head was pounding and I brought a hand up to my temple as an image flashed into my brain, making me jump.

Two people stood smiling at me. A man and a woman. Both had brown hair the woman had bright green eyes while the man had brown. And then it was gone. As soon as it had appeared.

And I was left alone in the dark again.

The floor lurched and suddenly, a faint grinding sound of metal met my ears and I flinched. The darkness pressed in on me, causing me to scoot backward until my back met a cold metal wall, much like the floor beneath me.

Cold air came at me, causing me to shiver as the floor started to rise faster and faster, increasing speed by intense measures. I feel tears threatening to spill at the back of my eyes and my throat close up.

The rattling metal got louder and louder and suddenly, the floor stopped moving, causing me to fall over. But the darkness didn't get any lighter.

The air seemed to get thicker and I was struggling to breathe as I sat in this heavy darkness.

I let out a whimper and buried my head into my knees until forcing myself to stand up. I left my hand on the metal, grated wall and walked around the box slowly, keeping one hand on the wall and the other out in front of me as I walked around.

I met a corner, and then soon, another. And I kept going on like that until I realized that I was trapped in a box.

That's when the panic set in. My heart rate sped up and my breaths became louder and heavier as I whipped my head around, searching for any signs of light.

I let out a cry and sank to the floor, trying to control my breathing but to noa vail. I was trapped. In a metal box. Alone.

"Help!" I cried out, not caring about the crack in my voice. "Please! Help me!" My voice was hoarse and the shouts burned in my throat.

"I'm going to die in here," I said in a shaky voice to the thick empty air as I choked down sobs. I finally let the tears flow down my face as I brought my head to my knees and tried to ignore the fact that I was alone, trapped in darkness, and wasn't going to be rescued.

And then I stopped, I looked around because something finally dawned on me that just made me panic more. I suddenly couldn't pull up the picture that had been in my head moments ago. I couldn't remember who I was and why I was trapped. I couldn't remember anything before the moment I opened my eyes.

The silence seemed to press down on my ears until a sudden clang of metal startled me. I ripped my head up off my knees and looked around quickly. Another sound and I was pushing myself into the corner as the sound got louder and louder.

I gasped slightly when the ceiling seemed to split in half and a bright, blinding light came through. I brought a hand up to shield my eyes and the hand that had seemed to grab my head slowly let go and I could breathe again.

I blinked into the light as I saw silhouettes of things standing above me, chattering quietly. I could soon make out shapes of human bodies, male human bodies standing above me and talking in hushed whispers.

I quickly wiped away the tears on my cheeks as their eyes washed over me.

I nearly shrieked when a boy jumped down into the box, shaking the floor and the walls around me.

"It's a girl." He called to the others in a heavy accent and the chattering grew louder. "Shucks." He said mostly to himself, leaving me confused by the word he spoke. I didn't know what shucks meant.

I let my eyes roam over his figure as he brushed sandy hair out of his eyes. He was tall from what I could tell from my spot on the floor. I could see muscles bulging in his legs though his arms were a bit thinner.

I still hadn't said a word as he looked at me expectantly. "How would you like to get out of here?" He asks finally, splitting the silence. I just nod after finding out that my mouth seems to be glued shut.

He holds out a hand and I look at it warily before grasping it. His hand engulfs mine and I can't help but notice the callouses on his palm as he pulls me to my feet.

I don't even meet his shoulders once I'm standing and he gives me a small smile as he looks down on me.

"I'm Newt." And before I know it, hands are grasping my arms causing me to let out a small squeak before I am pulled out of the box and onto green, trampled grass. "Welcome to the Glade, Greenie," Newt said, climbing out and standing next to me.

The crowd slowly cleared and I gasped to see large, stone walls surrounding me. I was trapped in a box again. The only difference was small openings on each wall.

I turned in circles for what felt like minutes, feeling that familiar hand grab ahold of my heart once more.

"Hey, no need to panic there." He said, resting a hand on my shoulder. It felt awkward, heavy. Not like it would if I had known him longer.

"Why don't we go see Alby." I give him a confused look and he smiles slightly. "Alby's in charge of the Glade, Green Bean."

I couldn't see the sun as I looked up at the sky, but I knew it was there. If it wasn't, then there would be no light. All I could see was blue. No clouds, no sun, just blue. It set me on edge as Newt led me into a tall, leaning, wooden building.

Inside smelled like wood. And everything appeared to be made of wood with the exception of a few small rugs made of wool. The building seemed to be empty and it confused me further. If there were so many boys here, how come none of them were inside this building?

Newt led me through a doorway and a boy with dark skin and no hair on his head  He didn't seem surprised or stressed as Newt had first been when he saw me. Instead, he straightened up and just stared at me, making me squirm beneath his gaze.

"Gotta name?" A name? I don't think so. I shook my head. "Don't worry 'bout that. It'll come to you soon." I just nodded. "Whatsa matta? Ain't got a tongue or somethin'?"

"No," I said shakily, cringing slightly from the rawness of my throat. "I just didn't know what to say. Sorry."

"Don't be." He chuckled. "No one ever shuts up around here." I just nodded and he squinted at me.

"Why don't you have Alex go set up a hammock for her, Newt. I'll show her around." Newt gave me one last smile before walking out of the room.

"Hope you aren't afraid of heights, Greenie," Alby said before leading me out of the room.
