I stood on the edge of the concrete, peering down into the metal box below me. A short, chubbier kid layed in the corner, his pants soiled and that fact is obvious.

Newt jumped down into the box and immediately helps him stand up. I felt my chest tighten and I looked away, blushing. The poor kids face was bright red with embarrassment and there are tears streaming down his face.

"It's a'right, Greenie, we can get you some new pants." A few kids behind me snickered and I shot them a look before turning back around and looking down into the box again.

"Kid, it really is alright," I said, causing him and Newt to look up at me. "David puked all over himself when he came up." I heard David, an arrival from two months ago, grunt in response and I grinned.

It's dark again. I can hear the grievers screaming beyond the walls that keep us in, and protect us. Their screams bring me back, like I am inside the maze all over again, running from that horrid thing. Vines that tripped me appear in my dreams. The cracked concrete haunts my days.

"Maya, right?" I looked up suddenly to see the Greenie standing in front of me. "Newt said that was your name." I nodded and gave him a grim smile. "Are you really the only girl in the maze?"

"You bet. Kinda sucks though." I say honestly and he giggles.

"Why aren't you coming to the bonfire?" He asks.

"Because I don't feel like it."

"Newt said something about there being another girl once?"

"You sure do ask a lot of questions." He frowns when I don't answer him, causing me to groan. "Fine. Yeah there was a girl named Eleanor. We don't talk about her much."

"Did she die?" I shoot the Greenie a glare.

"Yep." But now, I wasn't so sure. Minho never found her body. "Go bother Newt."

"He said to bother you." Of course he did. I give the Greenie a grim smile but pat the ground next to me. "Welcome to hell, young one." He just smiles.

"Mommy?" I ask and step into the dark room. The light from a candle suddenly illuminates the room. But I shriek when I lay my eyes on mommy. "Mommy what happened to you?" Her eyes are red and bloodshot,  popping out of her face. Her hair is stringy and greasy. Her skin a yellowish color. Is she sick like daddy was?

"You have such a pretty face." Her voice cracks and sounds old. Not like the soothing water her voice used to sound like. She slowly advances towards me but I run out of the room, terrified and swing the door shut behind me before pushing a wooden chair in front of it. "LET ME OUT!" She screams, banging on the wood. "LET ME OUT, ADELI-"

"Maya, wake up!" My eyes fly open at the cold, wet sensation that is doused over me. I squeeze them shut again, begging the memory to be yet again forgotten. "It's ok." A pair of strong arms pull me into a chest. I take a breath and smell grass and water, Newt.

"I- I saw her." I whisper shakily. "M-my mother." I ignore the tear that falls down my cheek. "But something was wrong. She was turning into some sort of monster." I begin to sob. The memory from being in the box resurfaces. Her kind face, bright eyes. She looked nothing like the woman from my dream.

Newt doesn't say anything. He just hugs me tighter. Ever since I came back from the maze I have slept in his room. I couldn't stand being alone in the darkness of my shed.

"You wanna come sleep with me?" His voice asked but he doesn't seem to be looking for an answer. He picks me up, cradling me to his torso. Soon, I am on the bed next to him, my head on his chest, my tears soaking his shirt.

"Newt?" He hums in response. "Thank you."
