I try to stick to Slade closely as we trail through the woods quietly, but quickly. Slade raises his fist, stopping and stopping me as well.

"All clear." Slade whispers, looking around and focusing on the noise around him.

"Hey, can we rest for a second?" I breathe out, trying to catch my breath.

"You can rest on the plane." Slade quips.

"Gosh, I'm really looking forward to that in-flight movie." I laugh, as I trail behind, but I freeze when I hear a sudden clicking noise after taking a step.

Slade turns around sharply, trying to keep the fear from his eyes and his emotions in check.

"Oh, God. It's bad." I say, starting to panic.

"Thea, calm down and don't move." Slade instructs, throwing down his gear and walking toward me.

"How bad, Slade?" I ask, as he falls to the ground next to me, digging the dirt away from whatever I stepped on.

"It's a mine. It's probably Japanese, left over from World War 2. Still active. Impressive." He sighs.

"Can you disarm it?" I ask.

"Without disarming you?" Slade huffs.

"Slade." I say.

"Sorry, kid." He sighs.

"No, Slade, listen." I say worriedly.

"Soliders." Slade gasp, as he sees a small group of soldiers approaching.

"Can they see us?" I ask.

"They can only see you." Slade sighs, reaching over and ripping his bag off my shoulder.

"Slade, wait, please." I beg, reaching to grab him.

"Kid, I've got you." Slade promises, nodding at me before fleeing.

I nod in slip on my mask I stole.

"What are you doing so far from camp?" A solider ask.

"I got separated from my unit." I excuse.

"Come with us." The solider sighs.

"I can't. I'm kinda having a bad, you know?" I say, nodding toward the mine I'm currently standing on. 

As the solider bends down to look at, Slade comes charging and screaming like a mad man. He leaps into the air and begins to slash people with his sword. I bend down slightly, covering my head. When I peep up, all the men are in the ground, blood leaking from their bodies and there's Slade.

"Be still." Slade warns, before pushing me and sliding a dead body in my place.

"Thanks." I grin as I whip off the mask.

"Get up. Let's keep going." Slade nods.

"Obviously you weren't much of a Girl Scout." Slade laughs as he watches me struggle to make a fire with two sticks,

"That obvious?" I laugh.

"Better hurry. The wolves come out at night." Slade warns.

"Wolves. That's just another bonus, huh? Just another point on how this is the worst place on Earth." I say angrily.

"The only thing that will keep them out is fire. Not that attitude." Slade says.

"Well why don't you help?" I snap.

Slade smirks as he reaches in his pocket and pulls out a lighter, starting the fire.

"Seriously? Slade, I've been working on this for two hours." I sigh.

"I know. I've been watching you. Thank you for the entertainment." Slade grins.

"It's to good to know you care. About me." I sigh as we stare at the fire blankly.

"I don't." Slade says.

"You do." I tease.

"Remember that guy who tortured? He was my partner, name is Billy Wintergreen." Slade sighs.

"That freak show was your partner?" I exclaim.

"More, he was the godfather to my son Joe. We were sent here to get Yao Fei and find out why Fyers is so interested in him. But we were shot down before we even saw the airfield. When Fyers caught us, he offered us a chance to work for him. I declined, but Billy accepted. The godfather of my child, turned his back on me without thinking twice about it. So, no kid. I don't care about you. I need you so I can get the hell out of here and you need me. There's no feelings here, I just want to get to the hell of this island. Everybody is in this life for themselves." Slade spits out venomously.

"My father wasn't. My father put a bullet in his head for me, so I could make it here. Not everyone is who you think they are, Slade. They're are still people in this world who give a damn." I sigh before turning away and focusing my attention back to the fire.
