The roads on the highways were slippery; it made my car skid. I could feel the bumps along the roads beneath me making the car uncomfortably bounce. It was impossible to see through the rain, even with the lights on. The grey skies above were gloomy, and flashes of lightening occurred every once in awhile. Sounds of thunder bounced against the surface of the car. The rain sounded as if someone was releasing a bag of skittles onto the floor. Grass between the roads looked slippery and wet, filling with water, creating a ravine. Cars sped by, trying to exit into other lanes. Finding the correct lanes to the mall would be difficult in this weather. It was possible I could get lost.
Signs on the highways luckily had flashing lights around them for drivers to notice them. I switched to the right lane and turned, leading to the entrance of the mall. I was lucky enough it wasn't crowded today, so there were many parking spots available. I always went to the farthest spots, and parked my car away from others, just so they wouldn't make dents when reversing.
The rain began to turn into a light drizzle, so I didn't mind walking to the entrance of the mall with just my hoodie on. Although it was hardly raining anymore, it was still windy and cold. I watched as families ran in and out of the mall for shelter, while there was just me, taking my time by walking like a struggling cat. When I finally reached the mall, one of my favourite songs began to play. I sang along in amusement while walking to Wal-Mart. "My songs know what you did in the dark. So light 'em up! Light 'em up! Light 'em up! I'm on fire!"
As I walked into the food department, I caught a glimpse of a little boy staring at me. "You have a good voice, miss." the little boy said while smiling at me. I gave him a small nod and grin, and went to look for my pie. I didn't expect to be loud enough for someone to be able to hear me. My voice was in the average volume.
"Aha, at last, I've found you apple pie." I clutched the food in my hand and headed for the outdoors department. On the lower shelves, they had lanterns and clothing attire. Above it, the second row shelf had bottles like bug spray, sunscreen, and camping tools. The shelf above the second, which was the third shelf, held displays of tents for the use of camping trips. There were nearby racks where the umbrellas were being hung. I always wanted an umbrella that you could see through, so I picked it up and went over to the cash register. I took out twenty dollars as the cashier lady scanned my items.
"That'll be $14.95, please." she said while holding out her hand. I grabbed my change and bag, and headed for the book store. As I exited Wal-Mart, I noticed Star Bucks. The struggle was real when trying not to buy anything.
"Look away Rose.. Just look away. You can last without Star Bucks, right? Right, so keep walking and act like you don't see anything but the stores ahead of you."
"FREE SAMPLES!" A Star Bucks employee yelled.
"Ahhhh! Rose keep walking!" My walking soon started to turn into speed walking, then all of a sudden I began running. When I finally turned the corner and the Star Bucks employee wasn't yelling at my face, the book store was right in front of my eyes. I walked inside breathing in the smell of new books. Have you ever had that moment? Well, I always did, and I loved it.
I headed to my favourite seating area, at the back of the store. Red and black leather couches, with glass tables in front. Vases filled with roses that just smelled so magnificent. I loved roses, not only because of my name, but because they were the most beautiful flowers out there.
I sat down, comforting myself while taking out my new book, To Kill a Mocking Bird. As I opened the book, the smell of fresh pages was blown into my face like a breeze. I began to read, and a nice quote came up that I could've relate to. "Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing."
--Time Skip--
"Attention shoppers, the book store will be closing in 15 minutes. The book store will be closing in 15 minutes. Thank you." I instantly woke up to the loud sound of an announcement. The book was still in my hands, I was about a quarter done so far. I glanced at my watch and the time read 5:45 PM. I was here for 2 hours, but how long was I asleep? I rubbed my eyes, and blinked a few times to recapture my eyesight.
I started to pack up my belongings and stand up, not paying attention because my eyes were drowsy, and I felt dizzy. At that moment, I instantly fell to the floor. I had hit something, or someone. My explanation would be better if I described it as... bumped. My body slammed against the ground, and pain just happened to be everywhere, especially my left arm. "Oh lord! I'm so sorry miss. I really didn't mean to bump into you like that. I wasn't watching where I was going."
"No, no. It's not your fault. My eyes were closed." I said as I struggled to get up.
"Here, I'll help you. Take my hand."
By the sound of the person's voice, I could tell it was a male. Although, my senses realized I've heard this man before.
"Thank you. Again, I'm truly sorry." I brushed the hair out of my face, and began to pick up my belongings. As I began to walk away, I felt a tug on my arm pulling me back.
"Rose?" He said in a surprised voice. I turned to look at the man, and recognized him instantly. The man I had bumped into was Jacob. He still wore black and red, but a third time seeing him would more likely prove it, but there wasn't going to be a third time. "Rose wait, please listen to me." he pleaded. By that moment I was using all my strength to break free. Jacob had one strong grip, so I slapped his arm with all the energy and strength I had, and he let go of me within a second.
I ran out of the book store, and out the exit of the mall as if I was in Fast and Furious, subtract the cars. When I unlocked my car, I jumped in, started the engine, not paying attention if Jacob was running behind me. I checked my side mirrors, and started to reverse. The sky was still gloomy, but it was still drizzling. I was out of the mall parking lot, faster than the time a TV could be turned on.
