Jungkook wakes up in a cold, dark space. He's unsure of how much time has passed by, but he feels as though he's been out for a while. Still kind of groggy, and weak, he tries to get up. When he looks around, he notices that the surrounding area is pitch black; except for one light straight above him. The only other things that he can easily see are some papers, a small speaker, and a small bell; all sitting on the floor.
He notices that there's someone next to him and that the both of them appear to be on some type of platform. The person next to Jungkook appears to be a female with her back facing him.
"She's wearing the same uniform as me...," Jungkook says to himself. She begins to moan and turns over; getting up slowly. Feeling her head, she slowly turns over to try and check out her surroundings. "Lucy!?"
Surprised, Lucy looks at Jungkook. "Jungkook!? What the hell is going on?" The both of them stare at each other for a moment; both extremely confused. "What's that?" Lucy points to Jungkook's neck. Jungkook frantically feels his neck, trying to figure out what Lucy is talking about. He feels something cold and metal.
"I... I... I don't know..." Lucy feels around her neck for one.
Just then, the two are interrupted by a robotic voice being emitted from the speaker in front of the platform. "So, I see you two are awake." Both Jungkook and Lucy pause and slowly look over to the speaker. Jungkook recognizes the voice.
"Wait... Wait! That voice..." Lucy looks to Jungkook, confused. "That's the voice of the guy who must have brought us here... He came up to me before I passed out in the park."
"Not only athletic, but smart too. I like it," says the man.
"What the hell is going on here?" Jungkook yells agrily.
"It's quite simple. We're going to play a game." The two can sense that the man is obviously taunting them. "By now, you must have noticed the platforms that the both of you are sitting on. That platform will constantly monitor your combined weight." The man pauses for a second or two before continuing. "Now, should one of you move off of the platform, it will send a wireless signal to your collars, which will begin to tighten until you two suffocate."
"So then, how do we get out of here?" Lucy asks.
"There's the fun part," the man replies, "See those papers right by the speaker?"
"Yeah." Jungkook leans forward to pick up the papers.
"Those papers have a total of four riddles on them. For each correct answer, the collars that you're wearing will loosen a bit. For each incorrect answer, the collars will tighten. To submit your final answer to a riddle, ring the bell next to the speaker."
"You're insane." Jungkook barks back.
"Now, now... Be careful not to do anything to upset me." Right as the man finishes his sentence, Lucy's collar begins to tighten continually and she begins to gasp for air. This only happens for a couple of seconds before the collar stops and returns to its original state. "If you upset me, I'll kill her. Understand?" Jungkook says nothing, too angry to answer. "I'll give you a break and take that as a yes."
The speaker makes a small click before it stops emitting the man's voice. Jungkook looks down at the papers and begins to skim through the riddles. He leans over to share with Lucy. The speaker comes back on for a short moment. "Silly me. I was so excited that I forgot to mention you're being timed. You have five minutes. Take too long, and you both die." With that, the speaker cuts out again.
Lucy and Jungkook begin to panic. "Okay. Okay. What's the first riddle?" Lucy asks impatiently.
Jungkook reads it aloud. "You should keep me as straight as can be. Most of the time, I am slightly bent or curved. Your sadness usually causes me to bend further, but don't bend me for too long or I may never be able to fully straighten again. What am I?" Jungkook pauses. "What the...What's that supposed to mean?"
