Ch.13

That night couldn't have been any better. We caught up, laughed, watched movies, cried and bonded, just like high school times. But all to soon, Lauren had to leave for Paris. I wished her farewell at her car and made her promise to text as soon as she got there. I went back inside and sat on the couch with nothing to do. I was completely alone with my friend gone.

I switched on the TV and was shocked when Anastasia's face was spread at cross the screen with the caption of '2018's International Champion!' I smiled to myself. My friends had moved on in their lives, Lauren travelling, Emma settling down and Anastasia chasing her lifelong dreams.

Me? I was just in uni because it gave me a career. Yes, I had always wanted to go to uni, but sometimes I feel stranded, like that's all I'm doing. That's why I took this break. But this didn't stop me from missing the girls. Missing our pointless chats and coffees on Sunday mornings. I missed them so much.

~~~
By midday I had cleaned the whole apartment and was laying on the couch, exhausted. I heard my phone buzz and I moved my hand around the coffee table, trying to find it. It was from a blocked number so I hesitantly picked up, half expecting it to be a telemarketer.
I was met with someone breathing on the other end, hard. "Hello? Is anyone there?" Still more breathing and then...a laugh? "Oh sweetie, you have no idea what you've gotten yourself into. Look out your bedroom window." My heart was pounding as I walked up to the curtain, peering out. Sure enough, there was a hooded figure standing on the street opposite my apartment block.
They looked up at me and I saw as much as their nose down. Then, what they did next made my heart stop. Slowly, the stranger raised their hand like a gun and pretended to shoot right at me. I ducked under the window trying to breathe. "What do you want from me?" I cried into the phone. "I want you to stay away from Liam. He doesn't love you." The phone went dead and when I looked out the window, the stranger was gone.
It couldn't be any simpler. All this stranger wanted was me to leave Liam. But I knew I couldn't. After all we had already gone through, I was not about to just LEAVE! I dialled Liam and got dressed. "Hello?" I almost cried with relief when I heard his voice. "Liam! Oh thank god. You need to come now. The person in the alley just called me and they were-" my voice shook and I gathered myself, trying to be strong for him. "They were outside my apartment watching me. Please come now, I'm afraid." There was a pause on the other line and I could hear the jangle of keys. "I'm on my way, love. Pack your things."
I hung up and raced around, grabbing the necessities. I knew I could come back and grab my stuff. By the time I had packed my huge duffel bag, Liam was at the door. I went and answered the door and was almost bowled over by Liam who swept me into his embrace.
"Liam I'm fine, I'm not hurt. Can we just get out of here?" I could tell he was coiled up tight, the way he moved around was so tense. He grabbed my bag and we went downstairs. We got into his car and he sped off, getting away from the stranger as fast as he could.
"Are you alright?" he asked, never letting his gaze leave the road. "Yeah, just a little shaken up." He reached out and grabbed my hand, bringing it to his lips. "I'll keep you safe, I promise. And we'll find that creep." We arrived at a tall town house, probably 3 storeys high. He led me inside and my jaw dropped to the ground.
It was amazing inside, I couldn't even describe it! "Do you like it?" he asked with a smile. "I love it." I replied, taking in my surroundings in awe. Wood and metal were mixed to give the house a modern day look and all the rooms were huge. "I do have a guest room but...I kind of filled it up with a lot of stuff. Here, I'll show you."
He lead me into a large room that was supposedly the 'guest room', but in reality was far from it. There was no bed for starters, but the biggest difference was that it was filled with One Direction merchandise, albums, posters and more. Where the bed would've been, there was a huge grand piano and the walk-in was like a music studio. The walls were lined with album art and official posters on one end and guitars at the other. Everything you could imagine was in that one room.
"Wow." Was all I managed. I walked in and ran my hand over the polished wood of the piano, in absolute awe. "So if this is the guest room...then where will I stay?" I asked. Liam blushed. "You could stay in my room. I can just bunk on the couch, no biggie."
What was I to say? I went up to him and looked into his eyes. "I don't mind sharing." If it was possible, his pink cheeks blushed deeper. I giggled and kissed him on the cheek. "I'll take your bag up to my room because I have to make some calls. But you can stay here or explore or whatever." He gave me a huge hug and went on his way, leaving me to myself.
I decided to stay in the studio room as I called it, and studied everything in there. After a while I sat down at the piano and chose a song to play. I couldn't read music so I just went by ear and this time I chose to play an oldie but a goodie; So Sick by Ne-Yo.
Halfway through the song I felt someone slide onto the bench next to me and I jumped. "No, don't stop! It's beautiful." Liam wrapped his arms around me and kissed my neck, urging me to go on. I tried to play from the beginning but I was distracted by Liam. "I can't. You're interrupting my train of thought." I giggled. He made a sad face and kissed my nose. "I didn't know you could play. What else can you do?" I pondered. "Well I can play the guitar, and I can sing...a little." His smile couldn't get any bigger. "You have to show me!" I was so nervous. What was I going to sing to a professional?
I cleared my throat and started to sing More Than This, my favourite song from their first album. My voice was shaky at first but then Liam joined in and we sang together, harmonizing. I couldn't stop smiling. Liam kissed me as soon as we finished and I was happy, forgetting about the hooded girl for a while. "That was amazing." he whispered.
I smiled and we both got up, heading into his huge lounge room. "So, I was on the phone with Paul and he said that if you were on the phone long enough to the hooded stranger, then he can track the phone and hopefully find them. We could also get a sketch artist in and you can describe the girl to them. But only if that's alright with you." I slowly nodded, taking it all in. "Great! Well, I'll grab your phone and can get the artist in tomorrow. Then we'll find this creep." I felt relieved that there was some way to catch the girl, but I was still scared that she would come after me.
Liam nuzzled my cheek and kissed it, making me smile. "I have to go out for a bit love, but I promise I'll be back soon." And even though I didn't want him to leave, I nodded and he left me alone. I had gotten a text from Lauren saying that she was in Paris, and here I was, by myself.
With a sigh I explored the house, taking in every amazing room. Soon enough, I stumbled across what seemed to be the master bedroom. I walked in and practically fainted. A huge bed took up most of the room and my duffel bag was on its end. There was a huge walk in and the bathroom was gorgeous, with a fancy bath. There was a wooden spiral staircase in the far corner and upstairs was a small haven with a spa, bar and lounges. It looked out onto London, and it was sure pretty.
I sat on one of the comfortable chairs and closed my eyes. What a holiday it had been. I was already half way through my holiday. That meant only two more weeks in England and only two more weeks with... I didn't want to think it. What was I going to do? I had to go back, but I didn't want to leave Liam. Not after all of this. I had to think up a way to go back home and yet stay with Liam. But I had no idea how.
