Ch.14
I opened my eyes and saw that the room was bathed in an orange hue. It was afternoon. I groggily got up and yawned. Had I really slept through the whole day? Liam wasn't home yet because he would've found me by now, so I still had nothing to do. So instead, I went out onto the balcony and leant out.
The house backed onto an old town filled with tall trees. I closed my eyes and listened to the rustling leaves of the trees. Suddenly, they were interrupted by the shrill ringing of my phone. Liam. I picked it up and tried on my sexiest voice. "Hello?" his laugh greeted me on the other end. "Where are you?" "Why don't you come and find me?" I answered seductively.
I hung up and resumed my position, looking over the quiet town, watching little children running around and playing. One of the looked up at me and waved. I waved back and he giggled, running off in the opposite direction. Just then, I felt a hand on my waist and I spun around and was greeted by Liam's smiling face. "You found me!" I exclaimed. He smiled down at me. "I always will."
He stooped down and kissed me, not caring if anyone was watching. When he pulled away he instructed me to close my eyes. Nervous, I did as I was told. "Open." he said simply. When I opened them he was holding a Tiffany & Co. box. He handed it to me and I cracked it open.
Nestled inside was a white gold heart pendant with a delicate pink gem nestled in the centre. I was lost for words and looked up at Liam, trying to form a thank you. He understood so instead he took the box out my hands and removed the necklace, walking around me and placing it on my chest, fastening it for me. He swooped my hair to the side and kissed my neck. "You're welcome." I smiled and turned towards him. "Thank you."
What I really wanted was to say thank you for was for him being there, for supporting me, for taking me in and most of all, for being on that street on my very first day, because if he hadn't been there, I would not have anything to thank him for. Instead of saying all of this, I reached up on my tiptoes and kissed him. "Catch me if you can." I whispered in his ear.
I sprinted off down the stairs laughing and could hear Liam's footsteps behind me. Before I could run out of his bedroom, he grabbed me from behind and spun me around. I couldn't breathe because I was laughing so hard and Liam wouldn't let me go. He then threw me on the bed where I rolled around chuckling.
He laid down beside me, both of us panting in unison. I rolled onto my side and propped my head up on my hand. He did the same and we were staring into each other's eyes. "I don't want you to go." he finally said, breaking the silence. I looked away. "Neither do I." He pulled me close by my hips and forced me to look at him. "We'll find a way to stay together. Even if I come over to Australia. I don't care, I need you." His lips brushed mine.
I didn't want him to have to do that for me. It felt so selfish. But I knew he wouldn't listen, so instead I kissed him back, playing with his hair and running my fingers over his collar bones. I hitched up his shirt and ran my hands over his sculpted body whilst he pulled me close and tangled his fingers in my long hair. He slowly rolled over and pulled me on top of him, running his hands up and down my back.
This is what I would remember. Not my trying to kill myself or the creep in the hoody. No, I would remember Liam, his lips, his warm touch, his laugh, his smile. Because it's possible that once I go home, I'll never see him again. I pulled away and Liam stroked my face.
"Promise that, if I do go back home and you don't come," Liam started to protest but I shushed him, pushing through. "You have to be honest with me. Because long distance relationships are hard, and you may want-" I stopped short, not wanting to say the last bit.
"That's not going to happen. I'm not making that promise. Instead I'm promising that I'll make it work, that I won't give up on this," he kissed me. "On us." A tear escaped my eye and he swiped it away. "Ok?" he asked me. "Ok." I mumbled.
