After only a few days had passed, another anomaly had been discovered. Zakreever's screen flashed information rapidly, just barely legible to him.
"General!" he called. "It's the worst-case scenario! A target is remaining their presence in the 1st dimension. A woman named Sandra Trailness is locking people away into new dimensions. We can't send John on a mission to the 1st dimension can we?"
"I don't think it would be impossible," the General reported. "We've never tested his stealth functions. This could be his first attempt."
"I object," Meezala said. "We shouldn't bet on something untested. This is a dangerous mission, we can't send John into the 1st dimension yet. If he slips up once, we could be compromised. We have stealth specialists, please reconsider."
"You're right. We shouldn't send John yet. I'll send him to stealth training, for the future."
"I object to that as well. If John becomes a stealth unit, our specialists are out of a job."
"Giving them more time with their families. We don't have finite resources or any kind of economy like 1st dimension regions on Earth. With John Doe, we won't need any combat units, meaning we'll never have lives at stake."
"It sounds good on paper, sure. But doesn't something just feel off about it?"
"Meezala," Zakreever interrupted. "How about you send out the units and THEN continue this dispute?"
"Right, sorry." Meezala set her microphone to reach the speakers in the stealth unit waiting room. "All units report to the teleporter. Your target is a woman named Sandra Trailness. I expect the best of you."
The stealth unit filed in, and began their mission.
Meezala looked down to her desk, thinking that the General forgot about their argument.
"I see where you are coming from," he continued. Meezala looked up in surprise. She recalled where the conversation had left off, then nodded. "But we have to ignore such feelings. This is the safest manner of doing things."
"What if he turns on us!?" Meezala snapped. She finally had spoken her true feelings. She was afraid of John Doe from the start.
"Do you think I wouldn't prepare for such an occasion? I put a system in him that will automatically destroy him if he ever decides to not follow an order. He's allowed to object, but I can overrule him, and you can too. All of us can. There's no reason to be afraid of him turning on us."
"If you're so sure, I can say no more."
The stealth unit transferred into the 1st dimension. The target lived in a big house, and they were sent to the backyard. There were six units in total. Two of them climbed up the left side of the house via rope, Team A, and another two took the right side, Team B. The remaining duo, Team C, entered through the backdoor.
Team C carefully checked the corners before entering. They opened the door slowly, and stood back-to-back, facing each side.
"No sign of life on the first floor," Team C reported.
Team A used special scopes that allowed them to see through the window on the third floor. Nothing inside. They silently removed the window with a laser tool. The team checked the room once again.
After finding no one in that room, they moved to the next door. They opened it, leading to a hallway. There were two doors in front of them. They checked each door, then walked inside. One of them, in the room he entered, looked around, and saw a closet door. With his gun raised, he opened it. Nobody.
What was I thinking? The target wouldn't hide if they didn't know we were coming.
Just before he turned to leave, he felt an arm grab his mouth. A knife pierced his throat, his cries unheard. The other team member exited his room, and went into the other to check up on his comrade. On the ground, lay his corpse. The target crept behind him, and stabbed the second member. Team A was no more.
Team B infiltrated a window on the second floor. Nothing showed up in that room, so they moved on. They checked the entire floor, finding nobody.
"This is Team B. The target is not on the second floor."
Zakreever had heard these two reports. "All units, head to the third floor. Team A has not reported. Move it!"
The two teams ran up the stairs. Of course, Team B arrived first. They waited for Team A before entering though.
Together, they kicked the door down. "Surrender! We know you're up here!" They heard approaching steps. They readied their fingers on the trigger. They weren't prepared for what happened next.
Sandra dove out with guns stolen from Team A. She gunned the four of them down easily. The control center was in panic.
"All units KIA! Send in the assault team! Quick!" Zakreever demanded.
"Assault team, report in immediately!" Meezala ordered.
"Not necessary," the General said. "John Doe, you're training is being halted. We're sending you on a quick mission. Get in and get out quick."
"Roger."
"Good call," Valeesa commented. "This woman is clearly dangerous. Sending John Doe would risk less men. No men, to be exact."
Meezala and Zakreever were too stressed to object. John Doe was sent in, with a pistol and a shotgun.
When he arrived, he stormed in and bolted up the stairs. The target was searching the bodies, and was surprised by John's sudden arrival. John immediately fired his shotgun. The target was hit by a few pellets, and retaliated.
The target fled past him, and tried to escape down the stairs. John shot at her legs, and she tumbled down the staircase. John walked down as Sandra scrambled back up. The target fled towards the front door. Then turned around and fired.
The bullets fired by these weapons would have a small effect on John, so he took cover. The target was too far for his shotgun. He used his pistol and fired at her behind cover.
Zakreever chimed in. "The police are coming, hurry!"
John waited for the target to reload. When she did, John charged out and fired rapidly. He got right up to her, and shot over and over. The target fell over, dead.
"Target eliminated. I request immediate return."
"You never fail to impress us, John," Valeesa said.
John was warped back. The General congratulated him, and left the room. Valeesa left with him.
John was about to return to his private room, but Meezala stopped him.
"John? I wanted to say that I'm sorry. I misjudged you, which was unfair. You're a great asset to us. I promise to be more trusting of you from now on."
"Thank you, Captain Meezala."
