Chapter Sixteen

Hayden's P.O.V:

I chickened out. I can't believe it. I mean she seemed busy with her mom, when she's around it's never good news. Should I go back? I watch as her mom glares at me while driving away in her husband's expensive ass car. I think it's a way more serious matter than I envisioned. I hope it didn't affect Ariana too much with everything going on. Her mom can be stressing most of the time.

I sit on the bench and lower my head down between my hands. I suddenly feel watched. I look up to find Ariana walking on the other side of the road, she puts a gentle smile on her face and keeps walking towards her destination. Usually I would follow her but she seemed in a hurry, I watched as her figure got smaller and smaller as she walked away, until I couldn't make out her figure anymore.

I walk back inside and sit on my bed regretting every decision I've made from the beginning of the school year until this exact second. I decide to work on some unfinished essays, I'll talk to her when she gets back.

An hour later, I started getting impatient so I chose to grow the hell up, and knock on her door. And as soon as I do so, I'm greeted with a frustrated looking Hunter.

"Hey man you alright? You don't look too well." Hunter motions for me to come in and closes the door behind me rubbing his forehead, "Honestly, I don't know anymore. I really don't want to bother you with this and you probably already know since ever since you guys were babies, Ari tells you everything first." He sits on  the couch and takes a sip from his beer bottle.

"Which of the things are you referring to this time?" I ask as I take a seat on the wooden chair facing him, behind the coffee table. "Starts with a Jake and ends with I feel like everything is falling apart." He sighs and throws his head back, leaving his empty beer bottle resting next to his hand.

Ariana's P.O.V:

I have no idea what to tell him, but it's too late to go back now. I've waited more than long enough, I've been stalling for weeks now. But it was time, he deserves the truth.

"Jake." His hood was covering his eyes, his head was low. When he acknowledges my presence, he looks up at me and flashes me a shy smile, something shines in his darkened brown eyes, he had dark circles under his eyes, and a look of exhaust taking over his facial expressions.

I sit opposite to him, and put my hand on his "How are you?" He shrugs and stares at my hand on his, which makes me uncomfortable so I slowly remove it, trying not to startle him.

"I'm okay I guess, but that's not why you called. Something happened and I want to know what it is." He says in the softest way possible with a hint of worry in his voice. "I don't know where to start." I look away, trying to avoid his fixated gaze on me. "Jake, before you say or do anything, wait until I finish the whole story. Please, and.. don't get mad."

He nods and looks at me attentively, he takes my hand in his in order to calm me down from my stressed self. "It's your dad.." His eyes widen but he doesn't say a word waiting for me to continue. "And well my mom." He let's out a low gasp but still he tries hard not to let out the curse word he's holding in. I squeeze his hand to relax him a bit and proceed slowly with explaining everything I've learned so far.

"And well I guess that makes us... Step-siblings." I spit it out as if it were poison on my tongue. I cringe at the thought of it, but it's still Jake. He hasn't changed.

  "Ariana, I-" He stops, as if he didn't have enough words to explain the way he feels. "Do you know where he's staying, I need to know why. Why he left me and my mom. Why he never bothered to call or come see me. I need to know why he didn't want to be my father." As soon as he finishes, a tear slips down his cheek fast enough to fall on his black sweatshirt and disappear into the soft fabric. "I'll give you all the information you need, but you need to promise me to keep in touch and not do anything stupid." He nods and promises.

"Good luck Jake." I give him a a light friendly hug as he thanks me and watch as he jogs away to catch the first cab that passed by.

On my way home, I decide to check the phone I've kept off for the day. I find messages from a little over an hour ago from Skylar about Hayden calling her about me, Camila and Justin making sure I'm okay, Hunter telling me Hayden's at our house, and messages and voicemails from Hayden since yesterday night.

As I turn the key into the house and open the door, a tall figure stands before me. For a second I'm startled but then I feel the need to hug that person and feel his warmth. But I hold myself off. It was not the right time or situation. "Hayden." I say in a hushed voice.

"I- I'm sorry I was just about to go, Hunter left to go grab some things from the grocery store he'll be back in a bit." He says really quickly.

"No, stay I don't want to be alone." I reply frowning at him just as my phone rings. Dylan. Hayden glances at my screen and give me an apologetic smile. "You should probably get that. We can talk later." And he walks away.

I let him go. I watch as he walks past me onto the sidewalk, later the crosses the streets, then into his house, and slowly closes the door then I watch him look out from his bedroom to see if I was still watching. I sigh and get in, shutting the door behind me.

I don't even know where I went wrong for things to go this bad. It feels as if my whole world took and upside down turn, and it doesn't seem to want to straighten back up again. And it sucks, it sucks on so many levels, too many for me to count.

AUHTOR'S NOTE:

Oh la la. Jakey poo is making me so soft I can't. Harsh tension between Ari and Hayden. Oof though the horrible timing of Dylan's call. So much going down in the next few episodes, we still have no idea what Ariana and Hunter's mom wants to do. Mkay boos cyall!!!
