Love Interest: HarryDA meetings became the only thing keeping you sane under Umbridge's regime. You and the group in the middle of summoning patronuses. You watched as your best friend, Luna, created a hare, its silver fluffy legs hopping about the air above your heads. You gave her a pat on the shoulder. She was still staring in awe at her patronus. This inspired you to try again, after many failed attempts.
You back away into a corner of the room with enough space, numerous silvery animals and the students who summoned them before you. You think of times playing with your cousin at the Ministry where your aunt worked, and sitting around afterwards comparing Chocolate Frog cards. You hold out your wand before you; made of birch wood and a core of unicorn hair. "Expecto Patronum!," you shout. Finally, you felt out of luck, a figure of light emerged from the tip of your wand. A bird, you recognized to be a marsh harrier, soared above your head. It flew to the far corners of the room, as it caught the attention of a few of your fellow classmates. Even Harry, ceased in helping Neville, glanced upwards.
"That yours, y/n?" He called. You grinned and nodded. To your excitement, he looked impressed. "Well done, then", he shouted. You started back towards Luna, the marsh harrier still circling above everyone.
"Yours is beautiful," she said admirably.
"Thanks," you reply.
"Y'know, they represent creativity and level-headedness. It suits you well."
"You think so?" You ask.
"Of course," she said in her usual dreamy tone. You wondered what Harry's stag could possibly mean, the one that still wandered about while everyone continued to practice. You remembered reading somewhere that your patronus changes to match the one you're infatuated with. It must only change when the feelings are mutual. In the case, you weren't sure. You two have been spending more and more time together since the meetings began.
He's told you about his godfather, Sirius, this tool called the Marauders Map his father and three other friends made years ago, and his encounter with Voldemort the previous school year. You too were both half bloods, but instead it was your mother and sister's family who were magic-oriented. Newt Scamander was your grandfather, your mother's his daughter, and Rolf Scamander's your cousin, who you knew Luna had asked you many endearing questions about lately. Your father's born in America, and currently worked at a Muggle film studio in London. You both aspired to be aurors, and you aunt worked with Ron Weasley's father in the Department of Muggle Artifacts.
Your eyes accidentally wander in his direction again, and you see him helping out a third year conjure a patronus of hummingbird. Your eyes meet for a brief moment, and you pretend to be taking off your glasses to clean them with your robes. Your crush on your classmate at this point seemed completely hopeless; he was obviously crazy for Cho Chang, a girl in your very house, and a decent friend. You try pushing the thoughts aside. To him, you're probably just some person he knows, just like many others.
The third year Harry had been assisting made a light jog over in your direction. You saw by the color of her robes she was a Hufflepuff; someone you rarely ever saw outside of the meetings.
"Harry said you know how to keep the patronus out for long so it won't go away," she began. "Do you mind showing me how?" Before you answer, you glance up at the direction of Harry. He gave you a nervous smile and shrugged. You gave a light chuckle, then turned back to the girl.
"Sure thing. Why aren't you able to hold it out?"
"I don't know. I'm focusing real hard, then it just melts away, or something."
"Well, I don't know how much of a expert I am. I was only able to summon it just once."
"That's more than most of the people here," she mumbled in your ear. You felt bad for laughing, but it definitely wasn't an overstatement.
"Hm, alright, that's fair." You gave your wand a wave and the large bird disappeared. You spent the rest of the session showing the third year to keep her hummingbird summoned for more that 2 seconds. When Harry announced it was time to go, everyone made there way to the doors, and exited one by one, with Ginny and Pavarati and the lookouts.
"Thank you for helping her out," you hear a voice from behind. Like you expected, you were met by a familiar green-eyed boy.
"Don't thank me. We didn't get much progress, but I guess there's still next week."
"Still, it was a favor. I know she can be quite, er, honest."
"Oh, I'm used to honest. My best friend's Luna, if you know her for being anything besides Looney Lovegood."
"I've talked to her a few times before, she's nice to me. Honest, but nice."
"Sounds about right," you joke. Surprisingly, you felt yourself surge with unfamiliar confidence. You decided there's no point acting awkward around him if you pretend like you're not. Besides, you were a bit tired of waiting for him to confess his undying love for you, which was both unlikely and unrealistic. "A group of us are heading down to Hogsmeade tomorrow. Would you like to come?" You waited in anticipation, expecting a downright 'no'.
"Yeah, sounds good. It would be my last day in detention with Umbridge. A nice occasion to celebrate," he said, scratching his head nearest his scar, nervously. You notice red scratch marks on the back of this hand.
"Harry...," you hesitate. "You've been hurt, what happened?" He quickly tucks away this hand, clasping it with his free one.
"Oh, um, It was Hermione's cat,"
"Well, if they're cat scratches, you should use some disinfectant, like hydrogen peroxide." He nodded, and looked towards the floor. You continue to look at him. "But they're not at scratches, are they?" He slowly looked up from the floor, but continued to avoid eye contact. He shook his head.
"I didn't mean to lie like that," he confessed.
"I perfectly understand, believe me. I didn't even tell Luna about mine, though I suspect she already knows."
"Knows?" You expose the back of your left hand to show what you mean. The phrase I must keep quiet was etched into your skin.
"'Course my mum was furious when she heard I got detention. It's not really in my character, she said. I just wanted to know why she thought so poorly of half bloods like us." You felt quite satisfied with your explanation. Harry looked very solemn beside you. You two were the last ones to leave, as you were all alone in the vast room. The realization sent chills through your body. "Maybe I was a bit too persistent."
"She's evil," Harry spat. "We'll get her caught one day. She'll regret it." You nodded in agreement. He paused. "Thank you for telling me."
"Of course. We're friends now, aren't we?"
"Right. I'll be more honest next time."
"Swear?" You smile.
