Imagine hearing one of your best friends, Remus, couldn't come to class the day before holiday because he was very ill. You see his three best friends whispering about how he could've died, and you're extremely worried.
That night, you write a letter to him, addressing it to his home so he'd be able to read it by the time he got there for the break.
A week goes by, and you return back to Hogwarts. Remus waited until everyone left the train, then ran over to go hug you. You're taken by surprise; you and him were friends, but never really close. You two hung out a lot more after that.
