‘Are you sure,’ Maryann said as John came out of his aunt’s apartment.

‘I’m sure,’ John said

‘I have to warn you, my mum has a sharp tongue,’

‘I’m sure she does,’

‘I mean it,’ Maryann whined worried about John saying the wrong thing and her mum saying something to break his spirit, she was her daughter and the woman tried and succeed in breaking her spirit. ‘Please be careful.’

‘I’ll be careful, Mary, you need more faith in me,’

‘Of course John,’ Maryann said, trying to hide her worry ‘when does she come?’

‘In a week,’ John told her, he didn’t tell her yesterday in case she tried to pull out ‘but don’t worry.’

‘Okay,’ Maryann whispered ‘but how can’t I worry?’

‘She can’t touch you know,’ John told her ‘as I said she can’t explain how or why you aren’t dead.’

‘Thanks John, I needed that.’
