I met Ron, Harry, and Hermione at the bottom of North Tower where we began our long journey to the top.
"Theres — got — to — be — a — shortcut." Ron panted as we made our way up our seventh long stair case and emerged on a landing where there was nothing but a painting of a bare stretch of grass on a stone wall.
"I think it's this way." Said Hermione peering down an empty passage to the right.
"Can't be. That's south, look, you can see a bit of the window..." said Ron
I noticed Harry watching the painting closely.
"Harry?" I called. He didn't answer so I turned to the painting where I saw a fat, dapple-gray pony on the grass and was grazing. A moment later, a short, squat knight in armor came after his pony. By the looks of grass stains on his knees, he fell off his pony.
"Aha!" He yelled as he spotted Ron, Harry, Hermione, and I, "What villains are these, that trespass upon my private lands! Come to scorn at my fall, perchance? Draw your knaves, you dogs!" And with that, he swung out his wand and brandished it violently, however, it was a bit too long for him which made him collapse to the ground.
"Are you all right?" Asked Harry.
"Get back, you scurvy braggart! Back you rogue!" Yelled the knight.
"He was just checking to see if you were okay!" I scolded.
"Away, you cox-comb!" He yelled as he attempted to get up, pushing the blade of the sword deep into the grass. He pulled as hard as he could on the sword but still had a difficult time pulling it out of the grass. He finally pulled it out with a flop on the grass and got up to wipe his sweaty face.
"Listen, we're looking for North Tower. You don't know the way do you?" Harry asked.
"A quest!" Said the knight happily, "Come, follow me, dear friends, and we shall find our goal, or else shall perish bravely in the charge!" He gave his sword a fruitless tug, tried and failed to mount his pony, gave up, and cried, "On foot then, good sirs and gentle ladies! On! On!"
He ran, clanking loudly, into the left side of the frame and disappeared. We hurried along the corridor, following the sounds of his armor.
"Be of stout heart, the worst is yet to come!" Yelled the knight, and we saw him reappear in front of an alarmed group of women in crinolines, whose picture hung on the wall of a narrow spiral staircase.
Huffing and puffing, we climbed the tightly spiraling steps. We were getting dizzy until we heard the murmur of voices above us, knowing we had reached a classroom.
"Farewell!" Cried the knight from a picture of sinister-looking monks, "Farewell, my comrades in arms! If ever you have need of noble heart and steely sinew, call upon Sir Cadogan!"
"Yeah we'll call you if we ever need someone mental." Muttered Ron as Sir Cadogan disappeared.
We climbed the last few steps and emerged onto a tiny landing, where most of the class was already assembled. There were no doors off this landing. I looked around and saw Draco Malfoy who simply nodded, Pansy Parkinson who glared at me, Newt with his group of friends who gave me a smile, Tai who was hanging out with a dark-haired boy with a beanie who simply gave a small wave, and Lacey who waved frantically and grinned. I smiled and waved back and she pointed up at the ceiling where there was a circular trap door with a brass plaque on it.
The trapdoor suddenly opened and a silver ladder descended at Harry's feet. Everyone got quiet.
"After you," said Ron grinning, so Harry climbed the ladder. I followed. We emerged into the strangest-looking classroom I had ever seen. At least twenty small, circular tables were crammed inside it, all surrounded by chintz armchairs and fat little poufs. Everything was lit with a dim crimson light, the curtains were closed, and it was incredibly warm with a fire burning under the crowded mantelpiece which was giving off a sickly sort of smell as it heated a large copper kettle. The shelves running around the circular walls were crammed with dusty looking feathers, many packs of tattered playing cards, countless silvery crystal balls, and a huge array of teacups.
