shadows are dancing on the horizon,
but you mustn't go near them.

when i was young, small, glimmering,
i thought they were friends.

they said they'd fix me and shape me,
make me an angel in the sky.

promises fizzled like soda pop and love,
spreading over my skin lightly.

they said my ribs are a cage for my heart,
that the real me was only seen

when everyone else could see the cage,
then they'd know the heart is there.

but here i am, intoxicated on disease,
covered in claw marks galore.

my body doesn't respond to joy or smiles,
only the bitter taste of diet pills.

and those shadows dragged me deeper,
the forest closing around my shouts.

what's left of my body will be broken.
when you find me, run away.

run for your life and never ever ever ever
let the shadows see your face.
