Maano (Mushrooms)

Different types of Maano will be found in different places. Some of these are the Blethent Caverns (Greendew Maano), The Carnivorous Forest (Red Maano), Sienniai (Goldenbrush Maano), Aldenaea (Rockwash Maano, Bark Maano, Star Maano), and finally Stanted Peak (Shroul Maano)

Note that not all Maano should be eaten!

Greendew Maano
This particular type of Maano will only grow within the confines of the Cavernous Region, specifically preferring to grow in and around the Blethent Caverns.
They take root on the edge of the thermal-heated pools, where they feed on the water's rich mineral content.
They produce a unique bioluminescence that will attract animals who pollinate them. Creatures lured by their glow will be enticed by their unique smell and rub against them, coating themselves in the sticky pollen.
Touching the Maano will cause it to release a sweet smelling, honey-like substance. This is used to make candy or is rubbed on aching joints to help soothe pains. This substance tastes like bananas coated in cinnamon and sugar.
The mushroom itself is used in some Cavernous Rhailonnian dishes and has a spicy-sweet flavor.

Red Maano
Red Maano is a hardy plant that grows in the Carnivorous Forest. The bright red coloration serves as a warning to would-be predators that it is toxic. Not much is really known about Red Maano due to the fact that everyone actively avoids the Carnivorous Forest, but one researcher has recently discovered that this kind of Maano feeds on the carcass of literally anything it can catch.

Goldenbrush Maano
This aquatic strain of Maano grows in the kelp beds of Sienniai. There, it anchors itself to rocks, coral, and sometimes even animals. It feeds on microscopic bacteria that live in the water.
Unlike Greendew Maano, Goldenbrush Maano's bioluminescence is used to keep fish away rather than attract them. This is because Goldenbrush Maano is toxic if eaten. There are only a few species that can eat Goldenbrush Maano without getting sick Including Rhailonnians, Creline, Telfins, Qualt, and Graffin.
It doesn't not secrete a honey-like substance like Greendew Maano.
The taste has been described as bittersweet.

Rockwash Maano
Rockwash Maano is one of three types of Maano indigenous to Aldenaea. It is Bluish Purple in color and emits a sweet fragrance.
It prefers to take root amongst the rocky riverbed, where it doesn't have to worry about not getting enough water.
This Maano is edible, but is also used to make homes smell nice as well as to help with headaches. It tastes like a mixture of watermelon and vanilla bean, with a sponge-like texture (like angel food cake)

Bark Maano
Bark Maano is the second type of Maano found in Aldenaea. It's coloration ranges from a rich magenta to brilliant red. This allows it to blend into whatever tree's bark it has chosen to grow.
When mature, Bark Maano will change their coloration into strikingly attractive patterns to catch the attention of any creature willing to spread its pollen.
This Maano is not considered to be "edible" due to it's awful flavor, not because it is dangerous.

Star Maano
Star Maano is the third type of Maano found in Aldenaea. As suggested by its name, it's head is generally shaped like a star, and range from greenish yellow to orange.
This Maano prefers to take root in shady areas where it is damp, but not soaking wet.
It is edible and has a strong citrus flavor.
Like Greendew Maano, Star Maano will release a honey-like substance that is primarily used to help pollen stick to passerby. This is also edible, tasting similar to bell peppers and raw tomato.

Shroul Maano
Shroul Maano can only be found growing within Standed peak's irradiated caldera. This Maano is to be avoided due to fairly obvious reasons. Shroul Maano really doesn't even look very appetizing anyway. The mountain itself is off limits to everyone.
