"Dead? Oh you mean fainted," Moon nodded. "Just give her a Revive."
Looker shook his head. "Moon. Sylveon is dead. The Hyperbeam was the most powerful one ever recorded. It was so long and wide that we were surprised you weren't damaged by it. Moon, Guzzlord's Hyperbeam destroyed your Sylveon's body."
Looker avoided looking into Moon's eyes, guilty. "Shit, I couldn't even recognize that it was Sylveon. When we arrived moments after you passed out, we found this ribbon beside you. Anabel was there first and noticed that this was wrapped around Sylveon when you battled her."
Looker solemnly handed Moon Sylveon's ribbon. The yellow piece of silk was dirty, but once cleaned, it would restore it to its original state. Moon looked at it blankly. She could not come with the terms that Sylveon, her sweet and kind Sylveon, was dead. Oh, Moon knew that Pokémon can die. She passes by the cemeteries all over Alola to pay her respects to the dead. But now that one of her own family was dead, she could not fathom it. "She's dead?"
The dam broke. Moon began to scream.
~~~
No funeral was made for one of the Alolan Champion's many Pokémon. No. People did not care that the dead Pokémon was the one that saved all of Alola. All that was provided for the grieving trainer was a headstone and a shovel.
Of course, there were people who protested about the lack of care and offered condolences. It offered relief, a small stone knocked off her back. But it did not take away the fact that her Pokémon was dead.
Moon visited Sylveon's grave every day where she lays in a meadow of flowers, the very same meadow that she first saw the Eevee. She hated it here. It reminded her of Sylveon. The bright pink flowers were the shade of Sylveon's ribbons. The sky was always the blue of the Pokémon's eyes. The worst thing was the memories that would replay in her head. Moon would watch as Eevee would dance with the Cutieflies. Moon and Eevee eating malasadas. Moon jumping with joy when Eevee evolved into Sylveon.
When Moon captured all the UBs, Nebby created a wormhole that allows the beasts to roam freely. It was better than being a research experiment, like Type: Null and Cosmog. Moon forgave Guzzlord. It was trying to protect itself. Rotom had translated what it said. Guzzlord attacked Moon because it noticed that she gave the orders and Sylveon followed them. Defeat the queen and her subjects will crumble.
Moon sighed and sat on the rock where she first found Eevee. She started to fiddle with the yellow ribbon around her wrist. It's only been half a month, but she still could not accept her death. Denial, someone once told her. "Moon..."
A shadow looked behind her. The quiet presence, cold yet soothing and calm. "Gladion."
The blond teen sits down beside her. It's been a while since she'd last seen him. Last time they met was a couple of years ago before she took on the Pokémon League. Now, he's grown up. His bangs had grown longer and wilder, reaching his shoulders. He's more built instead of the scrawny boy of 16. He still wears black clothes, but Moon had to admit that his taste in clothing has improved.
"Moon, I'm sorry for your loss. I know that you've probably heard people say it many times, but I don't know how to express my sorrows otherwise," he murmured, quiet. Not at all like the loud, boisterous boy she knew.
Gladion's words broke Moon's walls. Tears that was never shed since that day started to stream down her face. She clutched on to Gladion's jacket, crying into his chest. "Why? Why?"
Gladion looked at Moon with a forlorn face. He hesitantly hugged her back as she broke down more walls. The sobs were loud and ugly, but the moment was all the while sorrowful. They stayed that way for a while, Gladion's arms surrounding the grieving Champion.
When Moon's crying was reduced to sniffles, Gladion said, "Moon, you see, your Sylveon was the mate to my Umbreon. She showed up at my house last year while you're were battling challengers. It was then when I knew that she was having an egg. Sylveon produced two eggs. Umbreon kept one and the Eevee is a strong one. This Eevee takes after her mother and I knew she would want me to give it to you."
Gladion whistled, and Sylvally came out with a grey fur ball on his back. "I didn't catch it. I think that it should be you who captures her first." I glance at the grey fur and it starts to move. Its fur sparkles as it lifts its head.
"A shiny Eevee?" Moon picks up the Pokémon, cradling it like a babe. "Eevee!"
Its small cry brings a smile to Moon's face. "Thank you Gladion."
Gladion looked at Moon. It's nice to finally see Moon smile, he thought as he watched Moon tap the shiny Eevee with a Luxury Ball, wanting to create a deeper friendship. And I will do whatever it takes to keep it there.
