When the Night Fell in Love with the Moon

Chapter 9

"The finals of the Aether Foundation Pokemon Battle Tournament is here! This contestant is the Champion of Kanto. His Pokemon battle prowess powered his way through the tournament, and once again bested his rival Blue, the Champion of the Johto Region! It's Red!"

Red stood on one side of the field, face blank in his black suit. He stared at his opponent who glared right back.

"And on the other end is the Alolan Champion's Boyfriend!"

"BOYFRIEND?" the trainer barked. His face had heated up at the thought of being Moon's man. He glanced at Moom, who too had a red face.

"Aah, I was paid to say that!" the announcer said as Lillie slid over 2,000 Pokedollars.

"A-anyways, Red's opponent is the constant competitor of the Alolan Pokemon League and is known region-wide as the Searcher of Strength, as well as the Savior of Pokemon. He travels to find the strongest trainers and battle with them at the same time work as the Co-President of the Aether Foundation. His partner, Silvally, is one of the only two to exist. Give a hand to Gladion!"

Gladion stood there, silently fuming at the announcer and Lily, but turned his attention back to Red. Red stared back.

"Listen fellas. I know you already know this, but let me explain the rules once more. The limit is one Pokemon. When your Pokemon is unable to battle, you cannot use Revives, which brings us to the no item rules too, except if it's already held by the Pokemon. Z-moves and Mega Evolution are allowed. Ready? Bring out your first Pokemon!"

Red grabbed a Pokeball and released his first Pokemon, Pikachu. The yellow pokemon let out a cute cry before dropping on all fours to prepare to fight. Gladion let out Silvally, which currently holds the Grass-type disc. "Partner against partner."

"Begin!"

The two Pokemon rushed at each other. Red didn't even command Pikachu. The Pokemon and the trainer have become one. They know what they want, and they'll stop at nothing to win. Gladion did not have the same experience as Red, so he commanded, "Crush Claw, go."

Pikachu dodged and used Light Screen, before attacking with Volt Tackle. Pikachu and Sylvally's Crush Claw met, creating an explosion of force. The dust cleared to reveal the unscathed Pokemon. Pikachu used Quick Attack to circle Sylvally. The speed resulted in a Double Team of Pikachus, although Pikachu has not learned that move. "Silvally, use MultiAttack."

Sylvally used MultiAttack, spreading the attack in a wide arch. Pikachu had no choice to but to dodge it. Before the yellow Pokemon had a chance to recover, Silvally's Crunch sent in flying to the ground. "Silvally, use Crunch again."

The UltraBeast's worst enemy charged forward, its beak extended. Pikachu stood up quickly to dodge the attack. Pikachu came close to Silvally and used Nuzzle. The electricity was not very effective against the Grass type pokemon. Pikachu recovered from shock and used Quick Attack.

He landed attack after attack; it's speed allowing an advantage against the bigger Pokemon. Gladion grimaced. His partner was hurting badly. If this keeps up, Silvally won't be able to fight anymore. "Silvally, use X-Scissors!"

Just as Pikachu was about to land a hit, the X-Scissors quickly beat it back. "Use Crunch to grab Pikachu and toss him into the air!"

A Crunch soon followed, biting into Pikachu. Silvally tossed the small pokemon into the air. "Jump and use Crush Claw!"

Silvally activated his Crush Claw and swatted Pikachu higher into the sky. Pikachu wriggled around, trying to find footing. He quickly fell. As he passed by Silvally, he was yet again smacked by Crush Claw, this time towards the Ground. Silvally used X-Scissors as it fell to where Pikachu landed. A dust cloud flew up, blocking everyone from view.

When the cloud disappeared, Silvally was standing above the fallen Pikachu. "And the winner is Gladion!"

A roar of applause congratulated the winner. Gladion didn't care for it. He looked up at Moon, who looked amused. He grinned at her. If he can beat Red, surely he can beat Moon.

Moon stood up from her chair to look down at her rival. "Let's have fun!"

Moon raised her hand. "Come forth Primarina!"

The Soloist Pokemon burst from the river and landed with a beautiful cry. Gladion smirked. He looked at Silvally, who just got healed by one of the waiters. "Are you ready?"

"Silvally, use MultiAttack!"

Silvally rushed at Primarina. It released a torrent of attack. Primarina leaped out of the way. Moon called out, "Use Hyper Voice!"

Primarina bellowed out a song towards Silvally. It hit its mark, the Pokemon crumbling under the immense noise. Primarina stopped and used Moonblast. Silvally recovered and narrowly dodged the powerful Fairy attack. "Use X-Scissors!"

Silvally's attack was met with Primarina's tail, which slapped him across the field. "Silvally!"

Moon knew that Primarina was stronger than Silvally. The two Pokemon battled each other so much that Primarina memorized Silvally's style of battle. "Let's finish this with a bang! Use Psychic!"

Primemarina stood on her tail and sang another song. Silvally was hoisted into the air, making him unable to move. "Silvally! Use MultiAttack!"

But it was to no avail. The Psychic controlled the attack, wrapping it into a ball. Primemarina shot it into the sky, where she released the Psychic. The move burst out, creating sparkles of light. Silvally was lifted higher into the air before it too was released. It fell rapidly into the ground, landing with a loud thump. A light glowed from across the field. Moon's Z-Ring glowed with immense power as she and Primarina waved their arms. "Listen and be glad! Oceanic Operetta!

Primemarina cleared her throat. Her hair unraveled and her eyes sparkled. Her first note rang loud and clear. The music notes that followed distracted everyone from what was happening. The song controlled the humungous sphere of water that continued to gather water. Moon signaled the last note of the song, which Primarina sang out her highest note. The orb of water crashed into Silvally, erupting into a gentle drizzle as Primarina bowed to the audience.

"And the winner is Moon!"
