(1 month later)
Tracking down Rowena hasn't been easy.
Cas is next to useless and my powers are exhausted from our recent healing spree.
Finding her has been next to impossible.
There's been numerous deaths recently, me and Cas have been all over them since it's A- right up our alley and B- the only thing keeping our minds off of my mother, but it's taking a toll.
Being a healer is no joke, it's changing fates, giving hope, straining every muscle in your body to give someone a second chance, it leaves a mark in one way or another.
It hurts me emotionally, but Castiel...his grace is extremely low.
Even though he's had it back for a while, he's still weaker than most angels.
He only has a small amount in him, and he uses it over, and over, and over again.
Barely giving it time to regenerate.
I'm worried that it might not be good for him to be here with me, helping.
Doing magic is my job, and it won't kill me, but I can't say the same for Castiel and his fading grace.
"Castiel?"
I asked softly, not loosing sight of the dark alley way we were stalking out.
"What is it, Kenna?"
Taking a deep breath, I put my hand on his knee, practicing sympathy.
"What are you doing?"
"It's a nice gesture."
"Oh. Ok."
I pursed my lips and exhaled loudly.
"So, your grace, it's fading. What are you gonna do about that?"
He cleared his throat, and adjusted his tie.
"I don't know yet. It's complicated-"
"I think that you should take a break-"
"Kenna-"
"If you use it all, it'll kill you."
My eyes burned a bit thinking of him withering away, and it being our fault for pushing him too far.
"I know that we haven't known each other for long, but I care about you. I don't want to see you dead. After this hunt, you're on recovery."
Cas didn't respond for moment.
He clears his throat and looks at me.
"You guys need me for tracking down your mother."
"Not as badly as we need you alive. What use are you to us if you aren't breathing, Castiel?"
I say, finally giving him some eye contact.
"Kenna, I cant just take a break."
He says lowering his eyebrows in confusion.
"You can and you will. The boys have been meaning to tell you for a while, but they didn't want to hurt your feelings. Personally, I'd rather have an angel with a deflated ego then a dead one. We love you, and we all want the best for you. Right now that's for you-"
"To get some rest."
I touch his cheek gently.
"I'm afraid so."
We direct our eyes back to the alley and there she went, Rowena, her red locks bouncing with every step she took.
Without having to say anything we both got out of the car to follow her.
I told him to stay behind a bush and only come out if she made any sudden moves.
"ROWENA MACLEOD."
I yell across the alleyway, my voice making the ground tremble.
"Why Ms.Bishop...it's been so long. You haven't changed a bit, except for that rather nasty scar. Who gave you that one, dearest?"
"The front of a Semi. Listen, Rowena, you know I'm not one for chitchat. I'm in need of a favor, a few favors actually. I think you're the only witch I know powerful enough to help me."
Her face turns smug and she takes a few steps toward me.
"While I'm flattered...I must ask, what would be in it for me?"
I chuckle at her attempt to haggle me.
"Other than me not killing you where you stand-"
She raised her hand to cast, but I cut her off by raising my left hand...snap at the ready.
One sudden movement, and she'd hit the ground.
"I'll owe you one. A big one. You know me, I keep my word, I won't be running when you come to collect."
We both lowered our hands, breaking our spells.
"Fine. It's a deal."
She turns to walk away, but stops for a moment.
"Goodbye to you too, angel."
I smile widely, she's smart, and she'll be a great addition to our team.
We had just started our long trek back to Kansas when I got a phone call.
"Hey there, Sammy!
"Kenna, you and Cas on your way home?"
I put the phone on speaker so that Cas could hear.
"Yes sir, we have Rowena on lock. We should be back in a days drive, I think. Why? What's up?"
I asked, concern building from the anxiousness in his voice.
"You guys are not gonna believe what we found."
-
"Sam? Dean?"
I asked as we made our way down the bunker stairs.
My dad emerges at the bottom of the stairs with a smile spread across his face.
"Jesus, we missed you guys so much."
Sam says as he picks me up off the last step and spins me around.
I squeeze him tightly, not wanting to let go, in fear of him disappearing.
He puts me down and looks me in the eyes, his hands on my shoulders.
His eyes crinkled at the ends from his big smile.
"Oh good, you're back!"
Dean exclaims as he pulls Castiel in a tight hug.
I grin from ear to ear and jump into his arms the second he lets Cas go.
We all start chatting about what happened in our time apart, but then it was time to get down to the nitty gritty.
"You sounded pretty urgent on the phone, dad. What'd you find?"
Sam takes a deep breath.
"It's insane...It was- actually I think you guys should just see it for yourselves. We didn't want to investigate 'it' without you guys."
The was he said 'it' made me all the more nervous.
Not many things can make a cold shiver run down my spine, but 'it'?
'It' certainly did.
-
We walked about 30 minutes out into the forest, the trees getting thicker and taller as we did.
None of us spoke.
We were all a bit on edge.
The boys from what they saw, and me and Cas from the possible horror we might see.
Then I saw 'it'.
It was a hill with a door built into it.
"There...that's it."
Sam said quietly.
I take his hand in a sudden jolt of fear.
"Did you use the glasses to find it?"
Dean takes a few steps forward, a knife in hand.
"No. We found this place on our own. The glasses did show us...something. We figured you could see that if you wanted to."
I nod and plant my feet well, holding my hand in front of the door.
"Non revelare."
I say as I slowly guide my hand around the frame of the door.
The wooden frame lit up with amateur sigils and markings.
They were for protection, to keep things from seeing what was inside.
I suddenly felt sick.
I took my hand away and stumbled back.
My dad was quick to be by my side.
"Have you guys gone in, yet?"
I asked once my head stopped spinning.
"Not yet...we wanted to wait for you."
Dean said, waking over to us, Cas behind him.
I look at Cas for a moment, knowing that he likely shouldn't go in there.
"Hey, Cas? I need to talk to you, real quick."
I pull Castiel aside so that the boys don't hear what I have to say.
They don't seem to mind as they start to talk to each other casually.
"You know what I'm about to tell you, don't you?"
He rolls his eyes and nods.
"You don't want me to come in. Listen, Kenna, I understand you're uneasy, but I need to be there just incase something happens-"
"And then what? What are you gonna do? Cas, if something happens to you...It's not like I'm asking you to leave, or anything. Can you just keep watch? If we need you, we'll call."
He glances over at the boys and sighs.
"Yeah. I can do that."
I feel relief strike my chest and I hug him.
"Thank you."
