{~~Chapter 12~~}
The sound of smooth piano playing reverberated around the music room and it was the only sound you could hear. Gia leaned against the door and watched Alek play, his thin and skillful hands didn't even seem to touch the keys as the sweet melody played. His movements were graceful. He was graceful. The sunlight beamed down on him and his hair was a golden halo and skin shone a slight shade of gold. His eyes didn't leave the black and white keys as he played. His jaw was relaxed and sharp, not set like it was earlier. The beauty of him deceived his personality. Gia knew that deep down he was kind and fragile. She slowly walked over to the piano and rested her elbows on it, watching his movements. He didn't even glance up at her and a muscle in his jaw jumped. He ended the song with a set of chords and put his hands in his lap. "For generations, half demons and angels tried to master the ability to speak to one another telepathically but they failed and I doubt even you could figure it out." He said, his voice thick with sarcasm and venom. She looked down at her hands. "I didn't want to interrupt your playing," she said softly and he looked up at her with dark eyes.
He sighed and slid farther down the seat and Gia hesitantly sat down beside him. He didn't look at her. "How long have we not spoken to each other outside of the library or the training room?" He asked and she shrugged. "Four days," she replied and he sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Gia, look, I'm trying my hardest to not make any gesture towards you, but you don't know how hard that is for me." She looked at him and could see how much darker the shadows under his emerald eyes have gotten and noticed that his cheekbones were sharper than normal, indicating that he has lost weight. She wasn't going to lie, she was having a hard time too. She has no appetite and her nightmares still keep her awake at night. For the past week, she tries not to fall asleep so the dreams can't wake her. Her brother has been the only person to wake her up since Asmoday went to help out at the Main Guard. More and more hell dwellers are leaving their dimensions and nobody knows how.
She closed her eyes and the images of her past nightmares flashed in her mind. "I don't sleep anymore, Alek. Azael wakes me up almost every night because of my screams." She said. He snorted. "I am perfectly aware that you wake up screaming just about every night. I don't sleep either, and not because of that." She opened her eyes and looked at him. "Why can't you sleep?" He shrugged. "I'm just restless. My senses are on high alert all the time. I've never had an easy time falling asleep." He said, shaking his head. She went to grab his hand, but stopped. He looked at her hand and grabbed it, interlocking their fingers together. Sparks shot up her arm and she looked down at their hands. His fingers almost wrapped around her whole hand while her own barely curled over his knuckles. She saw small scars on his knuckles and they were slightly swollen, like he recently punched the wall.
He saw her looking at his swollen knuckles and brought her hand up to his lips, kissing her knuckles. "It's okay, I'm okay." He said softly and she shook her head. "No, you're not, Alek. But it's fine, because I'm not either." She said softly and he looked at her with dark eyes. He sighed and stood up, taking his hand away from Gia's. "I'm sorry, but I just...I can't do this. I shouldn't be doing this-we shouldn't be doing this." He said and she looked down, feeling cold. "I understand," she muttered and he lifted her up, pressing her against the wall with her legs wrapped around his waist. He was breathing heavily and looked at her with dark green eyes She gasped when his mouth crashed down on her own. She instantly melted into him, her eyes fluttering shut. She tangled her fingers in his hair, pulling him closer and his hands held her waist tightly, his short fingernails digging into her skin. He parted her lips with his and deepened the kiss, pulling her closer to him. His sweet taste exploded in her mouth and she moaned softly against his lips.
Their bodies were pressed together tightly, fitting perfectly. Something bloomed in her chest and her racing heart skipped a beat. She could feel his heart pounding against his chest, both of their hearts beating in perfect sync. "Holy- get a damn room, you two." Alek reluctantly pulled away from Gia and Azael glared lightly at him. "Or, you can always keep your hands to yourself, you know, just an idea." He hissed and she realized that he was actually being overprotective of her. She glared daggers at him. "Last time we were in a room-my room, I may add -you walked in on us too." She said, crossing her arms over her chest and he scowled at her. "Whatever, just stop doing it in the Guard, or something, so I don't get a million mental scars at the age of nineteen." He whined and she laughed. "I'm sure you've had many make-out sessions. Chicks dig dark and mysterious," Alek said, smirking and winking at Gia. She rolled her eyes and Verlac walked into the room. He eyed Alek and Gia and she blushed slightly when a knowing look flashed in his green eyes. "I want you two to come on patrol with me. We're leaving in a few minutes, so gear up." He said and they both nodded. Gia stuck her tongue out at Azael before walking out of the room with Alek behind her. Alek chuckled and gently pushed her forward.
