{~~Chapter 16~~}
Gia paced back and forth impatiently as Verlac and Diana examined Azael's body. The arrow seemed to have went straight through his heart and they assumed he was dead, until they found two puncture wounds on his throat. They suspected that he was bitten by a vampire after he died so he wouldn't die completely. She ran her hands through her hair as the image of his limp and lifeless body on the forest floor flashed in her eyes, making the pain of waiting even worse. She jumped when Verlac opened the swinging doors. He put his hands on her shaking shoulders and she looked down, expecting the worst. "The vampire venom managed to spread through his system before he got shot. The arrow missed his heart by a few centimeters. He is asleep and will be for the next few days. When he wakes up, he will be starving and go after anything with a heartbeat, so I don't want you to stay in there on your own." He said and she looked up at him with happy tears in her eyes. She wrapped her arms around him and smiled. "You have no idea how good it feels to hear that."
Verlac chuckled and patted her head. "I would do anything for the girl that's making my son happy." He said and she pushed open the double doors to see Cali sitting beside his bed, his shockingly pale hand in hers. Gia could see his dark veins on his arms and face and hands like spider webs. Cali didn't look up as she watched Azael sleep. You couldn't tell if he was alive, or not. Well, alive-ish. Gia sat on the opposite side of him and watched as he slept. She noticed his veins darkening on her side and sighed. "Well, at least he isn't completely dead." She saw a slight blush on Cali's face and she smiled. "Yeah, at least there's that." She said, her soft voice cracking. Gia couldn't stand being in the room any longer and left. She went upstairs and up to Alek's room. She knocked on his door before opening it. He was sitting in his bed, his legs crossed and two pieces of parchment paper sat in front of him.
She closed the door and sat down beside him, looking at the two notes. She didn't recognize one of them, but didn't want to read it. She has had enough of this stuff for tonight. Alek had his head in his hands, his thin fingers buried in his fair hair. The last bits of sunlight streamed in through his open window and turned his hair into a golden halo. She put her hand on his shoulder and he laid back with a heavy sigh, kicking the notes off the bed. She put her hand on his cheek and he closed his eyes. "It's going to be okay. Azael is still alive. Well, not really alive, he's undead. He was bitten by a vampire and the arrow just missed his heart." She gasped when Alek pulled her on top of him, their faces centimeters apart. He slowly slid his hands down to her hips and Gia closed her eyes as his touch left a trail of heat. He flipped them over and captured her mouth in a passionate kiss, leaving her breathless. She ran her hands over his clothed torso while his stayed at her waist. She knew that he wasn't going to push her to do anything and was glad for that; she wasn't sure if she were ready to take that step yet.
Alek parted her lips with his and his tongue slipped inside her mouth, causing her to moan at his sweet taste. He slowly, hesitantly brought his hand up to fist it in her dark hair and pull her closer. She ran her nails up his sculpted back and buried them in his gold hair. She arched against him, wanting to feel his heated, solid body against her cold and small one. He gently bit down on her bottom lip and trailed open-mouthed kissed over her jaw and neck, tilting her head back. She felt his short nails dig into her hip and felt that his body was tensed. He pulled away and looked down at her with fire red eyes, his slit pupils blacker than obsidian. She cupped his cheek and ran her thumb over his cheekbone. "Alek, what's wrong?" She asked softly and he sighed, shaking his head. "I-it's nothing," he said, his voice was deep and husky, coated in lust. Gia shook her head. "It's not nothing, please tell me." She said and he locked eyes with her, adoration and something else swam in the fiery depths.
He ran his knuckles over her cheek gently, sending tingles through her body. "Everybody tells me I'm so reckless and heartless. I kill pure demons without a second thought and during a fight I even laugh sometimes. I locked every feeling up, thinking that feeling made me weak," he said and she blinked. He smiled lightly. "I used to think being in a relationship, or making a commitment towards anybody, or feeling anything for anybody made me weak. It would mean I would risk my own life for somebody else's. Gia, when I first saw you I couldn't take my eyes off of you. I kept telling myself it was nothing. I kept telling myself it was because of what you are, but I realized that its not. For weeks, I would go down to the training room and try to take my mind off of you, but it never worked." He said and she watched as he looked over her face, a smile gently plastered on his angelic features. "I fell for the first time, and I fell hard. Giana, I-" he broke off, swallowing nervously. "I love you," he finally said and she felt her heart swell. She smiled widely at him. "I love you, too," she said softly and his smile grew and he crashed his lips against hers. Gia realized all those times when he looked at her and something flashed in his eyes, that something was love. She had always thought she was out of his league and when they first met at that party, she wondered why he chose her out of everybody else; why he hung out with her and not anybody else.
