After that, everything seemed to fall into place. Sodapop made me his girlfriend a week later. And we spent every waking second together. The time I wasn't with him, I was either working at the bar or working out with Darrel. Which was not as fun as I initially thought it would be. But I grew closer to Darrel which made things better.
Sodapop and I were inseparable. He was intoxicating and it's like I could never get enough of him. Every time we saw each other I got butterflies and I felt my heart race. I just loved being with him. The simple moments were my favorite. The ones where we were just there. Just in each other's presence. Everything with Sodapop was safe. He felt like home.
After a few months, I ended up earning enough money that I could start renting out a house across the street from the Curtis's. It was nice to be even closer to Sodapop. I also decided to leave my job as a bartender and I started waitressing at the Dingo. The money was a little slower coming in, but I didn't have near as many sketchy guys saying things no woman should ever hear. I had taken a few photos of the gang together. I cherished them. I had also started to become pretty fond of the park down the street from the Curtis house. I took a lot of pictures there as well.
I was working a shift at the diner when a few familiar faces walked in.
"Hey beautiful." Sodapop said and kissed me. I giggled into the kiss.
"Hey you." I said pulling away and looking at my hot boyfriend. "Hey boys." I said to the rest of the gang.
"Hendrix back to work." My boss ordered. I sighed and told the boys to follow me and I'd get them a table.
"Y'all know what y'all want?" I asked ready to write down their orders.
"Depends," Soda started. "How much for the hot waitress?" I rolled my eyes and I heard the boys all make annoyed sound effects.
"Ponyboy, do you know what you'd like?" I asked ignoring Sodapop completely.
"Yeah. Just a chocolate shake and some fries." I nodded as I wrote down his order.
"Johnny?"
"I'm alright. Just here with them." He replied quietly.
"Johnny Cade you're eating something. If you don't tell me what you want I'll just bring you something I know you like." I argued. Johnny rarely ate at restaurants because he rarely had any money.
"I ain't got no money Henna." He replied embarrassed.
"That wasn't my question. What do you want to eat?" I replied in a stern voice. He knew I'd take care of it but he hated it, however I knew he was hungry.
"Cheeseburger and a coke. No fries." He finally gave in. I smiled and wrote down his order.
"Darrel?"
"Water and burger with everything on it." He smiled politely. I adored Darry. Other than Sodapop, I was closest with him. He was charming and mature and I loved how he handled these boys. He would make a very good husband someday for a very lucky woman.
"Dally, what do you and your wild friends want?"
"Don't call those three morons my friends." He grinned as Soda, Steve, and Two-bit all made faces at him.
"I'll whatever Johnny got." He shrugged and I chuckled while I wrote a number 2 beside Johnny's order.
"Steve? What do you want?" I asked.
"Chili cheese fries and a vanilla shake."
"Oooh I want that too!" Two-bit pleaded. I nodded and moved on to my boyfriend.
"Last and least, Sodapop what to do you want?" I smiled at my boyfriend while he pretended to be offended.
"Cherry coke and cheeseburger plain and dry." I wrote down his order and began to walk away when soda grabbed my arm. "And this." He whispered kissing me again.
When he let go of my hand I walked back to the kitchen grinning like an idiot.
"I'm guessing that's Prince Charming I've been hearing so much about?" My friend Jenny questioned. I nodded and stared at Soda for a moment longer. "Wow. He's hot." She said leaning on the bar next to me.
"Oh yeah." I laughed with her.
"But not as hot as his friend." She replied confusing me. Who on earth could she be talking about? Soda is obviously the most attractive one of the boys.
"Who?" I asked borderline offended.
"The dark haired boy. The one that looks like he's fresh out of the cooler."
I scoffed. "That's Dally. And he looks like that because he is. The guy was in jail right before I got here a couple months ago."
"Well he's hot." She stated and then walked back to the kitchen to get her table's order. I rolled my eyes and looked back at Dally. And for the first time, I realized just how sexy he actually was.
