Three more weeks of living my life had gone by. I had grown even closer with each and every member of the gang.
"You can do one more." Darrel said encouraging me to try one more pull up.
"Trust me buddy. I'm trying." I pulled with every bit of what I had but finally let go in defeat.
"Hey." He put a hand on my shoulder. "Seven straight pull ups is pretty damn good kid. You've improved a lot. Good work." I smiled after that. Darry and I were close. For a long time, I considered him my best friend. But lately I've actually grown closer with someone else.
"Hey I gotta go. I have a lunch date with Soda. I'll see you later Dar." I kissed him on the cheek quickly and jogged out of the gym.
I strolled down the street toward the little sandwich shop Soda and I were meeting at. It was a little chilly. But my leggings and crop top didn't cover much which could be the problem.
"Hey grease." A strange voice slurred behind me. I turned my head and saw a soc I didn't recognize. I didn't say anything just kept walking. "You deaf or dumb, bitch?" He asked loudly. He was drunk and now mad. I should run. But instead I just ignored him and kept walking. I heard him quicken his steps and then grab me roughly.
"What's your problem?!" I yelled in his face.
"You, grease!" He shoved me against a wall and I could smell the alcohol on his breath.
"I'll kick your rich ass!" I threatened. I should probably have screamed for help. Darrel would hear me in the gym and there's a good chance one of the boys are somewhere close. But I didn't want to be saved. I could handle this.
"That's cute little girl-" I cut him off by kneeing him hard in between the legs and then bringing his head down to my knee. He stumbled back and I took a hard swing to the side of his face. I kept punching quickly because if he gained control he would win. He was stronger than me and I knew that. I had to get him down quick or I wouldn't stand a chance. After he took a second right hook to the jaw I got him in the gut and pushed him down. After that I ran as fast as I could to the sandwich shop.
It didn't take long because I was only about a block away. I stepped inside quickly and found Soda. He had already ordered our drinks and gotten us a table since my little run in with the soc made me late.
"Hey baby." I smiled and tried to slow my breathing down but couldn't. "Why are you breathing so hard?" He asked.
"Uh," I started debating on telling him the truth. I decided that the truth was always the way to go. At least most of the time. "Soc tried to jump me and I beat the hell out of him and ran away." I smiled while saying it. I couldn't help it that's pretty awesome.
He gave me a disapproving look and then all of the sudden his face changed. His eyes widened and his lips parted slightly.
"Oh my God." He mumbled looking behind me. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked behind me.
"Hello Sodapop." A sweet southern accent spoke.
