"How did you even find me?" She asked. Somehow she wasn't surprised. It was almost as if she knew all along her brother would find his way to her, and even if he didn't, she would be just fine.
"You always said you wanted to find yourself. This is the chaotic place mom named you after," he said. I grinned to myself. For some reason I was exceptionally happy to see Dally find his sister. And I know he was too.
"And she named you after the city of hate," she grinned.
"What can I say I was a difficult baby." She finally smiled a genuine smile and walked over and hugged her twin brother.
"I missed you Dallas."
"I missed you too Austin."
I stood patiently waiting and still grinning while they enjoyed their reunited moment. Finally Austin pulled away and she looked at me.
"This must be the unlucky girl you call baby huh?" I nervously laughed and Dallas thankfully spoke up so I didn't have to.
"Nah man. Get in the car and I'll tell you all about her and our family back in Tulsa."
"Family?" She questioned. "Wait, are you talking about the three boys mom had?"
"Yeah man. We're real good friends. They're apart of my gang."
"You're gang?" She repeated. "Dallas, what the hell?" She was getting worked up so Dally put a hand on her shoulder.
"Austin, come on. We have some explaining to do," he replied.
After that we spent about five hours explaining everything to Austin. We told her about each member of the gang and about my relationship with Soda. We told her about Sandy and about how Dally was closest to Ponyboy and Johnny. We even talked about Cherry Valance when she asked what a soc was. We told her everything. She was quiet for most of the ride. We explained to her how she looked most like Sodapop because they both took after their mom. She was in shock about the whole thing. She couldn't believe that Dally had been to prison so much. The Dally she used to know was the library Dallas. Not the JD Dallas. But after a while she settled down and she was just ready to meet these boys Dally and I call family.
"One more question," she said as we crossed the boarder into Tulsa.
"Shoot," Dallas replied.
"So you two really have nothing going on?" She smirked as Dally and I stayed quiet. I wasn't sure what to say. We didn't have anything. But at the same time we sure as hell didn't have nothing.
"No," Dallas said. "She really loves our brother Sodapop, man. If Sandy would get the hell out of here they could be together."
Austin nodded and I remained silent. He was right. But at the same time the ease of those words flowing out of his mouth hurt me. I wanted to be with Dally, but I wanted Sodapop more.
"We're here!" I said excitedly. I ran inside and found the gang sitting around like a bunch of bums as usual. Thankfully, Sandy wasn't here. "Hey!!" I screamed and the first one to reach me was Sodapop Curtis. It was almost as if it was instinct. He ran over, grabbed me and kissed me as hard and as passionetly as he could. In that moment the world around me fell away and I was home again. The taste of his lips and the feeling of his hands around me was home. He was home. I was safe and I was okay.
"Why'd you do that?" I questioned when I pulled away realizing we weren't together anymore.
"Because I am insanely in love with you. Sandy left. I told her it was you. I wanted you and I wanted nothing more than to be with you. God, I am so in love with you." His words filled my heart and I had never felt such warmth and goodness in my life. This is who I am supposed to be with. He was my soulmate. All of the sudden I realized Dallas was behind me. I turned and looked at him. There was a cold look on his face and I felt a moment of pain grow inside me. I had to ignore it. I got Sodapop back. I couldn't mess this up.
There was a few fleeting moments of silence before Two-Bit, of course, filled it. "Who's the sexy blonde?" He asked.
"My sister, you asshole." Dallas said.
"What?!" cried the entire gang.
"Look, everyone sit down. Dallas and Austin have a lot of explaining to do," I sat Soda down and the rest of the gang followed waiting patiently to hear the two tell their story.
"Alright," Dallas started. "This all starts with my mom, our mom."
