Stepping through the doorway at my aunt's house, it was clear that it was complete chaos. She was a blur as she ran from room to room trying to get stuff done.
"Ah... mom, what's going on?" Alora asked with hesitation lacing her voice.
"I have to get these dessert done with. I promised Zayne's mother that I will be there to help with decorations and I still haven't left yet!" Stopping to take a breath, it was obvious she needed help. Her hair had fallen from the intricate up-do she was sporting and her face was flushed and red.
"Well what are you making? Maybe we can help..." Shrugging my shoulders, I felt like between the three of us, we could get things done.
"I have a peach cobbler in the oven that needs to come out in fifteen minutes and I still haven't started on the Oreo balls that I promised to make!" Throwing up her hands, it was painfully obvious that she needed to take a breath right now.
"Mrs. Kay, Oreo balls are my absolute favorite and they are so easy to make. Why don't you go upstairs and clean up and we can make them. They will be done and ready to go as soon as you get down here." While Brittanie was talking, she put her arms around my aunt's shoulders and began leading her to the stairs.
"Are you sure? You three really don't have to if you don't want to." Looking at us, it was clear that she really did want us to.
"We are positive aunt Kay. You go upstairs and relax and we can finish down here." With a smile, she made her way up the stairs and disappeared into the hallway.
"So, what do we do first?" Turning towards Brittanie, Alora and I gave her expectant looks waiting for her to instruct us.
"I don't know. Don't look at me..." She said shrugging her shoulders.
"WHAT?" Alora and I shouted at the same time.
"What do you mean you don't know? You just told my mom you knew how to make Oreo balls!" Alora said as she made her way towards the kitchen.
"Well yeah but I don't actually know how. You guys saw her, she needed a dessert intervention so I lied."
Looking at each other, it was obvious we had no idea what to do. So, being the resourceful one, I pulled out my phone to Google how the make Oreo balls...
. . . . .
An hour later, we finally were done.
Gathering up all the desserts, we laid all of them on the floor of my aunt's car so she wouldn't have to come into the kitchen to retrieve them.
You see, we sort of blew up the kitchen.
Okay not literally but we had an accident with the chocolate and the short version is, it exploded and it went everywhere!
I was currently standing on the counter scrubbing what I could off the ceiling when I heard my aunt come down the stairs. Trying to intercept her, Alora ran out of the kitchen to stop her from entering.
Brittanie and I stood holding our breaths as we heard the two conversing out in the hallway. After a few minutes, we heard the front door close and Alora entered the kitchen again.
With a collective sigh of relief, we all looked around and started cracking up. To be honest, all of us were covered in chocolate and we had a party to be at in exactly 45 minutes. The kitchen was an absolute disaster and I could not believe that we let it get this bad.
As the chucking came to an end, reality set in and we kicked it into hyperactive mode. With Alora scrubbing the walls, Brittanie scrubbing the floors, and me on the ceiling, there was still no way we could get all this done, than get ready and still make it on time.
