I'm back! It's fine! I've just been working on getting another chapter of 'Hannah' done and getting life sorted and Christmas presents....

Booth: ** Three days later**

You were sitting on your hospital bed staring at the ring on your finger, sniffing occasionally as you attempted to hold back the sobs that were threatening to leak out. Why had you said those things? Why had you gone?

And now here you were. Laying in a bed in the hospital with a bullet wound in your abdomen and the remnants of internal bleeding. You pressed the pad of your thumb against the small diamond that protruded from the ring and waited until a small indent was left on your finger.

You missed him. So much. Booth had been right. And you had come so close to being bagged up and placed in a grave.
And you were so wrong. You did care. You cared more than you would ever admit. It was why you had taken the mission. What Booth didn't know was that you were trying to protect him, much like he had done for you on countless times. Sometimes, the saviour needs saving.

You looked up from the fading dent in your finger as the door to your room opened. Looking disheveled, tired and stressed, Booth stood warily by the door, the faint light from the ward outside creating a halo around his head.

"Hey." You managed a cracked whisper. You could feel it coming again. The sobs that you had been suppressing rose to the surface and you felt a tear go down your cheek. Booth came into the room fully and closed the door. Hands shoved in pockets, he approached the bed and sat down in the arm chair beside you. He looked terrible.

"You almost died."
"I know."
"You almost died to protect me." He stated, staring at the IV line that was connected to your hand. You nodded and watched him, his expression never changing as he seemed to count all the lines going into you.

"Why didn't you tell me, Y/N? I cou-"
"No, Seeley. You couldn't've helped. I... I had to do it myself."
"You almost died, Y/N. You almost died and then we... The last thing we did was argue and I thought you were putting the country before us." You reached out to grab one of Booths hands and squeezed it.

"I lied. Family is more important than this stupid country we live in. And I do care, Seeley. I have always cared. You are my family and I love you so much. I almost died and all I could think about was how it would affect you." Booth moved forward and lifted your hand that was holding is and kissed it, wrapping it in both of us. You felt the hot tears that were on his face fall to your hand and you yourself began to cry more freely.

"I love you, Y/N. I'm so, so sorry."
"I love you more."

Sweets: You came home a couple of days after the funeral. There was a pang of emptiness inside of you as you climbed the steps to yours and Lance's apartment. The funeral had been harder to cope with than you expected and you wished that, in fact, Sweets presence would've made the whole thing easier.

Except for your words that had hurt him.

"Hello?" Your voice echoed through the apartment as you opened the door, dragging your suitcase behind you. "Lance?" No response. You nodded to yourself, realising that it wasn't surprising that he wasn't there. He had taken your words to heart and like a poisoned arrow, those words were eating away at your relationship.
