CHAPTER THREE

//

YOU'RE BACK

"What's happening?" I panted as I rushed into the ICU.

"Brandy, Brandy," I felt a hand placed on my arm.

I looked up and saw Dr.Webber standing in my way.

"I need to get in there. Excuse me, Dr.Webber," I said, trying to push past him.

"Brandy, just wait."

"What-What's going on? Is he-" tears filled my eyes.

"No, no," he shook his head, "He's conscious."

My eyes widened as I looked at him, "You're kidding!" A smile pulled at my lips.

"But he's not the same as before. You might want to prepare yourself before you go in. You know what it's like when someone comes through. He's still very disoriented, just, uh, prepare yourself," Webber said.

I nodded, "Yeah. Yeah. We don't think it's, you know."

"We're not sure yet, it could be awhile before we know," he said, "He's like any other coma patient."

"Right. It-It's just different being on the other side of this, I-I just expected him to wake up fine for some reason," I chuckled a bit and shook my head, "Can I?" I motioned to his room.

Webber softly nodded.

I reluctantly walked down the hallway to his room. It felt like I was almost forcing myself. I was a bit scared of what I might see. He did look different from when he first went into the coma, he lost a lot of weight and his skin had lost its glow. I guess now it'd be different to actually see him awake like that.

As I neared his room, I started to get more and more nervous. What would he think when he saw me? Would he remember anything he had said to me before? Would he know I did this to him? What if he was upset at me?

I shuffled awkwardly as I saw Callie and Derek outside his room. I hadn't talked to either of them much since everyone had found out, especially Callie. I didn't know how she had felt about the whole situation.

"H-How is he?" I asked, uncomfortably.

"He's doing okay," Derek said.

"That's good," I nodded, as I rocked on the balls of my feet.

Derek gave me a small nod as the three of us stood in an unbearably awkward silence.

I peered into his room, tears came to my eyes as I saw him awake. I couldn't believe it. I gave the two a nod before sliding the door open and slipping into his room, closing it behind me.

It felt like he was in his coma all over again. Flashbacks to visiting him before flooded my mind. I tried to stop myself from thinking like that. He was okay now. He's okay.

"Mark?" I said softly, as I took a seat next to him, "Hey. How are you feeling?"

He turned to look at me and a smile grew on his face, "Hey," his voice was still hoarse.

"Hey," I giggled as tears grew in my eyes.

"Why are you crying?" he looked at me with a frown, "Is this about Derek?"

"Mark? What are you talking about?" I shook my head.

"Addy, we need to tell Derek," he breathed out, as he placed a hand on mine.

"Mark, hey, it's me, Brandy. It's me," I had felt my heart sink with the words that slipped out his mouth.

"Don't you agree? This can't go on any longer," He breathed out.
