Kurt decided to take a shortcut to his next class. He noticed that he had been almost late to his third hour and decided to find a shortcut. Sure enough, after examining his map, he found one. There were shortcuts all over the school. Small, narrow walk ways between main halls.

He decided that he wasn't the only one who figured this shortcut out. As he walked through, Kurt passed several boys. None of which he had seen before. And sure enough, this shortcut worked and spared him two minutes. He listened to his math teacher lecture about quadratic equations and nearly fell asleep before remembering that he needed to pay attention. Kurt yawned.

Passing times were normal, hundreds of boys buzzing through the hallways on their way to their next class. Kurt passed Thad in the hallway who nodded at him. Kurt smiled in return.

The rest of his classes went by quickly. However, halfway through Kurt's 6th hour something changed. His vision appeared distorted. He blinked a few times. No change. He squeezed his eyes closed for a few seconds and when he opened them again his vision wasn't distorted. That didn't solve everything though. Something was still different. Kurt couldn't put his finger on it.

Everything was its normal shape. However the occasional object was different. He looked down at his hands. Still light grey. His blazer was still black. He gaped at his blazer when he noticed the piping to be different too. He examined his History textbook. Some of it was different. It was grey like normal except... the cover picture of the lady holding the apple. The apple... It was different. He examined the bookshelf. Some of the books were different too. And Mr. Troast's tie.

"Kurt? What's going on?" Mr. Troast called.

"I... I don't know. Can I use the restroom please?"

"Quickly." Kurt rushed out of the room.

He examined himself in the mirror. The bathroom stalls... They were different too. Kurt flushed his face with water. Nothing changed. He noticed his cheeks. They look different too. Maybe not as noticeable or vibrant as the other objects. Wait! Kurt thought. That word! Vibrant... Where did I hear that word? It sounds familiar. That's when it hit him. Pigmentation class!

Kurt gasped. He was seeing colors! Or well, only one color. He gulped and headed back to class, looking as though he'd seen a ghost.

"Mr. Troast?" He Asked.

"What is it this time Kurt?" Mr. Troast sighed.

"I don't feel very well. May I go to the nurse's office?"

"I guess..."

"Thanks!" Kurt was already out the door. He ran to the nurse's office.

"Can I help you?" Asked the secretary in a very bored voice. She was rather tall and had her hair in a ponytail.

"I'm here to see Nurse Brianne." Kurt breathed.

"I'll call her in." She picked up her phone. The secretary (her name was Peggy, Kurt noticed) pressed two numbers and held the phone up to her ear. She yawned. "Hi Brianne, there's a kid here... no he doesn't look deathly ill... yeah I know... he looks panicked... I don't know maybe he needs the counselor... okay bye." Ms. Peggy looked at Kurt. "She'll be here in about 5 minutes. She's treating a kid with strep. You can sit there while you wait." She pointed to a chair along the wall. "Unless you feel like you're going to hurl, then you can sit there," She pointed to a different chair that was completely isolated on the other side of the wall. Trash cans lined both sides of it.

Kurt sat in the first chair she suggested. He pulled out his phone until Nurse Brianne walked into the room. "You needed to see me?" She asked, startling him. Kurt glanced around the room, confused on how she knew he was the one requesting her. Kurt realized he was the only other student in the room.

"Yeah, right," Kurt smiled.

"Follow me." Kurt got up and followed Nurse Brianne into her office. Her office looked as if he had just stepped inside an examination room at the doctor's. Everything was white. She motioned for him to sit on a stool in the middle of the room. There was a bed to Kurt's left. A trash can stood on every corner of the room. They appeared very scared of vomit at Dalton. The nurse sat on a swivel chair of her own as Kurt sat down.

"Now What seems to be the issue?" She asked.

"I... I think I started to see colors..." Kurt said nervously.

"Oh, so the usual?"

Kurt thought about what she just said for a moment in confusion. He then realized that she was probably right. It wasn't uncommon for kids to start seeing colors.

"When did you first notice the change?" She asked, pulling on a latex glove. She put the back of her hand up to Kurt's forehead to feel his temperature. She examined his eyes.

"About ten minutes ago." Kurt answered.

"How many colors out of the ordinary do you notice?" she checked his ears.

"Just one. I think."

"Okay Kurt, I'm going to show you a few pieces of a paper and if one looks weird to you I want you to tell me. Okay?"

"Got it."

She pulled out a piece of paper and showed it to Kurt. "No." He said. She pulled out another one. "Nope." Another one. "No." A few more papers went by with the same response.

"This one?" Kurt squinted at it.

"Yeah."

"Kurt, this is called red." His eyes grew wide. She pulled out another paper. This one was weird too but it was lighter. "This is called pink. It's basically a lighter red."

"I'm going to show you a few objects this time." She pulled out an apple. "This apple is red. Can you see that?" I nodded vigorously. "This scarf is pink." This lasted a few more minutes.

"It's going to take you a few days to start to see every color. I would guess a new one every day for you." She handed him a stack of papers. Each paper had different words on them. Green, blue, orange, yellow, brown, purple, magenta, teal, turquoise. To name just a few. Kurt noticed that the red one, burgundy one, pink one, hot pink one, blood red one, and the maroon one all had different colors but colors nonetheless.

"This is for each time you see a new color. Take this with you wherever you go for the first month or so before you have them all memorized."

"Thank you Nurse Brianne. I have just one final question. Who?"

"Are you dating anyone?" She asked.

"No."

"Have you talked to anyone you've never talked to before?"

"No."

"Did you do something or go somewhere out of the ordinary today?" Kurt scrunched his face up as he thought about it.

"Actually, I did. I took a shortcut to my third hour. I passed a few boys."

"Then there's a good chance one of those boys is the one for you!" She smiled feeling like a matchmaker.

"Thanks again Nurse Brianne. I should be getting back to class."

"No problem dear. Oh, and one more thing. If you don't figure out who your soulmate is within 2 weeks your vision will go away period. So basically you'll go blind." Kurt gulped.

Kurt had another issue he had to think about. Who was this mysterious man?
