CHAPTER ONE: NEW
"YOU'RE absolutely ridiculous Cameron!" My older brother, Roman, yelled at me. I simply shrugged, which made him even more mad."Cameron if you keep this up, mom and dad will find out, and they will literally kill you," Roman said referring to the parties I've been going to. He wasn't wrong, my parent would kill me. But until then, it was an easy thing to keep my mind off of home.
"So what? Maybe then I won't have to fucking deal with this bullshit!" I yelled.
My parents were getting a divorce because my mom cheated on my dad. Ever since he found out, he hasn't been sober and shit's been tough.
"Cameron don't you see that I'm the only one trying to fix this family? I'm trying to mend everything but you're making it worse, and getting kicked out won't make anything better!" Roman yelled at me and I smiled. I stood up and walked under his arm through my doorway.
"Where the fuck are you going Cameron?" Roman yelled at me and i turned my head smiling.
"None of your fucking business," I said walking out. I knew he wouldn't say anything to my parents, because it would make everything worse. Not to mention that I had seen him smoking pot the week before.
I walked to a bus station, only three blocks away from my house and rode it to downtown.
It was the easiest thing for me to do during times like this.
I got off at my stop and walked to a small skate shop that I had seen weeks ago, but never had the courage to go in.
"Aye, wassup," a tall African American guy said standing behind the counter, he was holding a rag and wiping down the counter.
"Nothin much, would about you?" I asked looking around the shop. In the back was a couple couches and a TV. Three guys were sitting there; one tall white kid, a smaller white kid, and a mixed kid.
All of which looked older than me.
"Nothing, could I get you anything?" He asked and I shook my head.
"I don't have shit," I explained and he nodded.
"Wassup for real, like you look drained," he said and I shook my head.
"Just family stuff," I said quietly and he nodded, "I understand."
"Hey, I hope shit gets better," he said and I nodded, turning to walk away.
Before I left, the smaller kid walked up to me.
"Hey I'm Ruben," he said and I smiled, "Cameron."
"You look like a Summer," Ruben said and I scrunched my nose.
"Okay then," I said making my way out, but he grabbed my wrist.
"There's a party tonight, you wanna come? It looks like you need it," Ruben offered and I nodded.
"Okay why not," I declared and he smiled.
"Want Ray to pick you up?" He asked pointing at the guy behind the counter.
"I don't know any of you," I said, quite frankly in disbelief. No stranger had ever been this nice.
"You look like you need people, and here we are, so where do you want to get picked up?" Ruben asked and I sighed.
The only place I could think of was the small liquor store a few blocks up.
"Marley's," I said and he nodded.
"See you at 5, be there," Ruben said and I nodded.
"Okay, bye Ruben," I said and he smiled.
"Bye Summer."
