CHAPTER 17: KIND
I don't want to ruin Luke's board.
It was so clean, and new. Painting on it feels wrong. My board was new when I got it. It was a plain navy blue deck, which is why I decided to paint it. Plus it was just a butterfly, something easy.
The Earth on another hand was difficult. I didn't want to mess it up. I didn't want to make countries deformed.
I had all the paint, it was now just up to doing it.
I was sitting in the back patio of Ray's while the boys were watching some movie. Probably one they had seen a few times.
Ruben walked out, setting his board down and sitting next to me.
"Hey," I said and he smiled, "hey Cam."
"Why aren't you painting?" He asked and I shrugged.
"It's a perfect board. I don't want to ruin it," I explained and he nodded.
"Well your board our good, so what is making you doubt yourself now?" Ruben asked again and I shrugged.
"The Earth is totally different then butterflies! You can't mess up butterflies," I whined and he laughed, "I could."
"You got thin Cameron. Just imagine the earth, and paint it out. You just have to start with a big blue circle right?" Ruben responder making me smile.
"Yeah," I added and he nodded, "good, I'll see you in 20 minutes and there has at least got to be a big blue circle on that board."
As I began to paint, I had an idea. It was bold, but the way I saw it in my head made it even cooler.
I painted a couple planets from afar, green, blue purple. It was something different, and not generic. I loved it.
"Aye Cam, your customer is here," Ray said about an hour later. I was nervous but excited.
"One sec!" I yelled picking up the board and grabbing it by the wheels.
As I walked in I saw the familiar face, grinning.
"Okay so I kinda twisted your idea, please don't be mad," I said setting the board down face down.
"Wow, its amazing Cameron! You did this?" Luke asked and I nodded.
"Wow! I can't believe this," he said smiling.
"So you like it?" I asked and he rolled his eyes, "I love it."
He pulled me into a hug, kissing my forehead, and then quickly letting go. It made me blush.
"Here," Luke said passing me 60 bucks.
"You don't have to Luke," I said and he smiled, "I know, but you deserve it. Plus you're cute when you blush." He said picking up the board.
"I gotta go Cam, see you soon?" He asked and I nodded, "of course Luke."
"Great, see you around Cameron," Luke said, and just like that he was gone.
