CHAPTER TWO: TRUST
RUBEN picked me up, as promised. And I was squished in between Ruben and the tall white kid.
"So what's your name?" The mixed kid, who was behind the wheel asked.
"Summer," I said without hesitation.
"Summer, I've never heard that one before," he said smiling.
"What's yours?" I asked back and Ruben elbowed my ribs, "don't ask questions," he whispered.
"Fuckshit, nice to meet you Summer," Fuckshit said. I was about to say what kind of name is that but I stopped myself. I needed people.
"Summer, the guy on your right is Fourthgrade, and you clearly know Ruben," Ray said from the front. "Oh and I'm Ray," he quickly added.
I nodded even though I knew he couldn't see me.
Fuckshit pulled up to a small house, it looked similar to mine, and we all got out. Snoop Dog was blasting.
"Summer," Ray said pulling my shoulder.
I stopped and looked at him.
"Do not drink. I'm serious," Ray said and I nodded, walking away from him.
I made my way to the kitchen and made a saturated drink, added water to the cup. That shit was disgusting, but I wouldn't get drunk.
I saw some friends, people who've taken me to parties before.
Cali and Jordan, friends from school.
"Hey Cameron, what're you doing here?" Cali asked smiling down at me.
"Nothing, needed some time from home so some friends drove me here," I explained and they both nodded.
"Who took you?" Jordan asked and I shrugged.
"What does it matter?" I said and Cali rose an eyebrow.
"It matters where the fuck you're going, and who with. Whoever fucking took you, could've fucking raped you or something," Cali said under her breathe.
"Calm down, they're chill. One of the guys is my age anyways, his name is Ruben, Fuckshit told me," and suddenly Jordan put his palm on his forehead.
"You're here with Ray's crew?" Jordan asked and I nodded.
"Fuck Cameron!" Cali said rolling here eyes and setting her cup on the counter.
"You can't hang out with them," I had just began to remember why she didn't like them.
"Just because you and Fuckshit fooled around doesn't mean I can't be friends with them. I'm not 10 anymore Cali," I said and Cali took my drink.
"Fuck you Cameron!" She said and I smiled.
Footsteps approached from behind me, and someone grabbed my hand, leading me away.
"What the fuck!" I said accidentally before realizing that it was Fuckshit himself.
"What the fuck was that about?" He asked, genuinely concerned.
"Nothing, just saying hi to some friends," I said and he rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, okay," he said and I shrugged.
"Summer, you can't be fucking with potheads like that. I mean I'm a shit influence, but their even worse, I promise," Fuckshit said holding my shoulder.
"I know, but they've been there for me when I've been a shit show. Just because you and Cali had something doesn't mean that she's that bad. She's taken care of me when I was roofied, or when some guy tried to rape me. They are my people Fuckshit. They are my family," I explained and Fuckshit took my hand, "come on."
He led me past the back gate and to a small skate park, totally deserted.
"When I was 12, my parents had this giant fight leaving my mom in the hospital. I got fucking depressed and had no light, you know?" Fuckshit began and I nodded.
"But then I met Ray, and he took me under his wing. He taught me how to skate, and a way to feel whole again. This could be your light too. And we could be your people. But if we're going to be your people, Summer, you have to trust us. Trust me. Listen to me. I've gone through the same shit you're going through now, and it's not going to get better, by getting yourself drunk and starting fights," Fuckshit lectured and I nodded.
"You have to promise you won't do dumb shit like this unless I'm with you, swear?" Fuckshit explained and I nodded, "promise."
"Anyways, is Summer even your real name? I've never met anyone with that name," Fuckshit said making me smile.
"Is Fuckshit even your real name? I've never met anyone with that name," I mocked and he laughed.
"Fourthgrade gave it to me, it's because I say fuck shit dope, when I learn a new trick," he said and I smiled.
I heard footsteps approach and someone sat next to me. Then two more sets of footsteps came and I smiled.
Ruben sat next to me, with Fourthgrade on the other side. Ray sat next to Fuckshit.
"We're your people."
