CHAPTER THREE: YOUNG
IT was a normal day for the crew, sitting in Ray's skate shop, watching a movie then going out skating.
Ray didn't usually get much business, and when he did, it was the rich Beverly Hill Mom's looking for a special one of a kind deck for her son.
But today was different.
Everyone sat watching a movie, while Ray did his usual restocking and organizing.
However a little kid came in. Maybe a few years younger then me.
"Hey little man," Ray said smiling at the boy who's eyes wondered, just like mine.
"What can I get you?" Ray asked and the boy shook his head, "Nothing, just looking."
The boy glanced at the group, and I looked right back at him.
"Anyways, thanks bye," the boy said quickly leaving, and running down the block.
"What the fuck was that about," Fuckshit mumbled next to me.
I shrugged and we continued to watch the movie.
A few days later the kid came back, with a 80's skateboard.
I'm no professional, but it looked more like a surfboard on steroids.
He came over and it was just me and Ruben.
Everyone else was out back skating, Fourthgrade filming them like usual.Ruben was trying to explain the importance of a kick flip, and why I needed to learn it.
"Summer it's easy! Even Fourthgrade can do it!" But the boy interrupted Ruben.
"Hey," he said and we turned to him.
"Hey," we said back awkwardly.
"I-I'm Stevie," he said and we nodded, "Summer, and that's Ruben," I said back.
"Where's everyone else?" Stevie asked curiously and I shrugged.
"In the back skating, you wanna meet them?" I asked adding, "want their autograph?" Ruben snorted and Stevie blushed.
"No, just to skate," He said and I nodded, Taking Ruben's hand.
Ruben motioned for Stevie to come with, and Stevie did.
We walked out back to see Fuckshit flipping his board, Fourthgrade drinking out of the gallon of water, and Ray skating towards us."Who's that?" Stevie asked and Ruben pushed him a little, "you don't ask questions. They're way out of your league. Just be cool," Ruben said and I smiled at him.
Stevie places his board down, and sat on it, admiring Ray and Fuckshit skate.
"Wow," he whispered to himself and I smiled.
"Okay, you need to remember that when doing a kick flip, your feet barely tuck underneath the board, like this," Ruben explained and I nodded, copying him.
But the board only went half way. "Okay nice try, but you need a little more momentum and energy, flip the board a little faster," he said and I nodded, trying again.
This time I almost made it, all I missed was landing.
"You're so close!" Ruben exclaimed making me smile, I tried again, landing it, and skating over to Fuckshit.
"Aye! That's my girl!" Fuckshit said hugging me, I smiled and skated over to Ruben again who was a little mad.
"Good job Summer!" Ruben said and I hugged him too.
"Ray come check this out!" Ruben yelled and Ray came over, smiling.
"Show em' Summer!" Ruben said and I nodded, going to the top of the stairs and demonstrating.
"Yeah!" Fourthgrade said smiling.
"That's it Summer!" Ray said clapping it up, and pulling me into a hug, patting my back.
I looked over to Stevie who was in awe, and Fourthgrade ruffled my hair.
"That was sick!" Stevie said as I went inside.
I smiled, "thanks Stevie."
We all walked inside, sitting on the couches, Fourthgrade passing out a couple waters.
"Thanks Fourthgrade," I said and he nodded.
"You can't say shit like that, Stevie, people will call you gay for that," Ruben said and I glared at him.
"Don't say that," I mouthed and he shrugged.
"Who's the little guy?" Fuckshit said, as I laid my feet on his lap.
"Stevie," I said and he nodded.
"Wanna go to the school?" Fuckshit asked referring to a big elementary school out of season that was unused in the summer.
"Yeah," I said and we all got up walking to Fuckshit's truck.
I had grown attached to Fuckshit, he was my best friend. We piled in, realizing that we were a seat short, so Fuckshit put up his extra seat, squishing me in between him and Ray.
As we drove we listened to Ruben's favorite; Smells like Teen Spirit by Nirvana.
We parked a block over from the school, and hopped the fence, Fuckshit boosting me.
A security guard came, "You kids aren't supposed to be here."
We laughed, "You can't tel us what to do," Fourthgrade yelled and the guard rolled his eyes.
"Little punks, you are not welcome here, get the fuck out," he said and Ruben threw a rock at him.
"Don't throw that at me!" He yelled and we laughed.
"You aren't even a real cop! Get the fuck outta here!" Fuckshit yelled and we burst out laughing again.
"I have a badge mother fucker!" The guard yelled and I yelled, "yeah okay mall cop!"
"You little mother fuckers!" The guard yelled as Ruben threw more rocks and Fourthgrade threw a bottle at him over the fence.
"Fucking kids these days, man!" He yelled walking away.
We all were busting up.
