The day had arrived. Prom was tonight and let's just say I was feeling less that thrilled. I wasn't looking forward to the endless sea of photos that I knew everyone would be posting. Photos of them with there friends and dates living out there last year of high school.
My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the front door. My parents had already left for work so I pondered who it could be, everyone I knew was getting ready for prom.
When I got to the door I opened it to reveal Wesley in his tux. He looked stunning. His caramel curls were combed and neat, his purple bow tie brought out the color in his eyes and made them glow. Beside him stood a lady who looked to be in her late 20's. She had dark hair with caramel highlights. Her bright green nails tapping on her waist.
"Ann, this is Vienna, she's my surprise to you!" Wesley proclaimed excitedly.
"What do you mean? shouldn't you be practicing before prom?" I questioned
"Well I can't go if my date isn't ready." he snickered
"Wes...." I stuttered
"Ok, Annabeth, Vienna is going to help you get ready for prom. I'm taking you to prom. I'm not letting you sit at home miserable" ashton explained.
"But your band, your suppose to perform tonight!" I shot back.
"I called and canceled, I told them there was something more important I needed to do. now come on, Vienna needs time to get you ready!"
I hugged him, he was perfect. he had given up one of his biggest gigs, just to make my night special.
"Wait! I don't even have a dress" I shouted to Wesley while being shuffled into the bathroom.
He appeared in the doorway, "I got ya covered" he smiled and fled to the kitchen.
After about an hour or two of Bobbie pins, mascara, and hairspray, Vienna had successfully made me look princess like, and I loved her for it. I was dumbfounded to see how much a little makeup could do. I couldn't wait to walk down those steps and see Wesley, and him see me.
I've known him my whole life, but I never really thought about if I was attractive to him or not, but tonight, I wanted to be beautiful, for him. he deserved a decent looking date so I had to try. but for the first time in my life I wanted to be beautiful not only for Wesley, but for me.
I heard the front door open and realized it had to be my parents returning home. What would they think?
Mom and I never had a very close relationship and I knew she tried to be a good mom but it was frustrating because she tried too hard, and it was obvious. I almost dreaded for her to see me because I knew it would be a flood of sappy, fake emotions. despite my dread I let her come up stairs to help finish getting go me ready. dad stayed downstairs with Wesley. I giggled at the thought of my dad trying to give Wes "the talk". you know the cliche talk all dad's give to there daughters date, a mixture of 'take care of her' and 'if you hurt her I'll find you'. Dad knew Wesley Better than that, so they probably talked about some old 90's movie only they knew about.
"Anna!" I heard from downstairs, "I have your dress, I'm going to bring it up" yelled my dad
My dad hauled a dress bag, larger than he was, up the stairs and laid it on my bed. I retreated to my room and shut the door behind me. I was worried to see my dress, don't get me wrong it was the sweetest thing anyone had ever done, but I hoped Wesley had a good fashion sense when it came to dresses.
Every ounce of doubt had left my mind the moment I opened the dress bag, because there inside was the dress I had seen in the window of the dress shop yesterday. it was perfect, and it may sound cliche, but it was a real dream come true.
I slipped off the t-shirt and shorts was was wearing and slipped into the gown. it was made just for me, it hugged all the right spots. I twirled around in the mirror watching the large skirt sway around me. The makeup was a dark smokey eye that complemented the dark lace of the dress, and my hair fell in long twists and curls, but half was pinned into a spiral. I couldn't hide my excitement as a half skipped out of my room and into the hallway, where I found a pair of black studded stilettos, a gift from my mother, who supposedly knew about Wesley's intentions the whole time.
I slipped into the shoes and turned to the steps, was I ready? the moment I walked down the stairs I wondered, would Wesley ever look at me the same? would he think I was pretty, would he want me like I wanted him? One thing I knew for sure, is never knew until I took that first step. so I did, I made my way down the steps, and my way to a waiting Wesley.
