The Bomb

It was all over the news, the destruction of the Metropolitan Government Police Office and the terrorists who did it. Nine told me to go home and get some rest because they didn't need my help for the next part of the plan.

"You want me out of your way?" I asked.

"We want you safe. Although, for the next part of the plan we will need you," Nine told me.

"What is it that's so dangerous about this part of the plan? Why can't I stand on the sidelines or help from here?"

"We can handle it," Twelve told me.

Nine nodded. "All we need to do is make one bomb and then plant it, that doesn't take three people to do"

I sighed. "Fine, you've convinced me. I'll be leaving now. Good luck"

I ended up going to the police station where my mom was working, she called saying she wanted my help with a case she was working on involving the Sphinx terrorists. Sphinx, the group with Nine, Twelve, and me.

I was walking down the hall from the kitchen to my mom's office, after grabbing myself something to drink, and accidentally bumped into someone. I didn't get a good look at his face, and he probably didn't see mine either. It was just a guy delivering some food.

"Sorry," he said as he walked away.

"No problem," I mutter, continuing to my mom's office.

She showed me the video of Nine and Five, both of them wearing masks to hide their identity. They gave a riddle to find their next hidden bomb, after gloating about the job they did with the MGPO.

"What first walks on two legs, then on four legs, and finally on three legs?"

"I was asked to see if I could figure this out, and I know how much you like riddles"

I couldn't give her the answer, mainly because I didn't really know it. Also, I couldn't help the opposing team.

I shrugged. "It reminds me of the mythology of Oedipus, that's all I can say"

She smiled. "Thanks, Honey"

I sat down on the couch she had in her office, working on a crossword. Whenever I came to see her, while she was working, I'd work on a new crossword. But my mind was stuck on the riddle, the numbers could've been an address.

"I'm going to the roof to think," I told my mom.

"Alright," she responded mindlessly, not taking her eyes off the computer.

I went up the stairs to the roof. It was peaceful, when you were ignoring the chatter and cars on the streets. The sky was blue. It was almost a perfect day, but I knew something was going to happen to ruin it.

A bomb exploded when I went to go back inside, destroying part of the building. I could hear terrified screams outside in the streets.

It knocked me off my feet and blew me to the side of the building. I was dangling over the edge, holding on with one hand. I just barely kept myself from falling to my death.

"Hang on!" Someone shouted at me.

I couldn't tell where the person talking was, all I knew was that they couldn't have said something any more obvious. Obviously I was going to hang on, I didn't want to fall down four or five flights.

Eventually a rescue crew showed up and my arms had just about given out. Finally, I let myself go, passing out before I could reach the bottom.

I woke up in a hospital bed. The window was open slightly, letting the curtains dance in the wind. The sun was up, shining brightly. Someone was sitting beside me, and someone else was standing by the window.

After blinking multiples times, allowing my eyes to adjust, someone spoke. It was Twelve.

"You're awake! You sure sleep a lot"

"How long?" I ask in a rough voice.

"You missed the next part of our plan, the one you were supposed to help us with. But we managed ourselves and it worked out"

"What did you do?"

"We just had to test them," Nine said. "Twelve, you should go get her something to drink"

"Right!" He exclaimed, jumping up and running out.

A memory flashed through my mind, it was of the guy I ran into back at the police station. The delivery man bringing in that case, the one with the bomb in it.

I got out of the bed, nearly falling over, and the IV that I was hooked up to got ripped out of my arm. Nine turned around, his eyes widening a little bit when I bunched my hands up in the front of his shirt.

"You weren't paying attention, you were careless!"

"I was paying attention," he said calmly. "But I didn't realize you were in the building"

"My mom was. I know she isn't always home and I don't see her often but out of everyone in this world she is one of the people I do not completely hate. She's given me everything so in return I've decided not to take anything that she has for herself. For example, her life"

"This is why we didn't need you for the plan to work out. I knew you'd get mad when you realized the target was that specific police station"

I let my head drop, because I was starting to feel woozy, and it hit his chest. My hands loosened around the fabric of his shirt. He slipped an arm around my back then underneath my legs, carrying me back to the bed. Twelve finally came back with some water.

"What happened?" He asked, noticing the IV wasn't in my arm and I looked woozy.

"Nothing"

"We'll tell the nurse about that," Nine said. "We need you to be able to walk for the next part"
