FROST COVERS THE WINDOWS of a homely apartment, walls painted soothing shades and a glowing hot fire roaring away in the small burner, sending warmth through the whole space. professor kim namjoon sits at the kitchen table, dressed messily with glasses hanging from his nose as he stares down the things he has to mark and grade over the holidays.

there's maybe thirty different sheets he made his 8th and 7th grade math students fill out, plus evaluation sheets to fill out for that term for meetings with parents in the first week of next term, and then there's the parental questionnaires he has from his homeroom class, which he has to look over, analyse, and send the results to the headmistress. all in all, namjoon's christmas break is gonna be quite busy, and it hasn't even started yet.

winter has arrived, and with it the promise of christmas break, frosty mornings where you can't feel your toes, glove and hat combos — usually rocked by namjoon's fiancée, yoongi —, and scraping the ice off car windows with a credit card in the mornings so you can actually get to work. and then the themed starbucks drinks, the lovely warn sweaters, coming home to a pleasantly warm house, the actual time off itself, and of course, spending time with loved ones. this all accompanied, as always, by christmas paraphernalia.

now, namjoon adores christmas. he's one of those adults who still has a child-like joy associated with the yuletide season, absolutely loving every second of the holidays. by december first he's extremely hyped for everything, listening to christmas music as he drives to work — much to his boyfriend's disgust because "christmas is in 23 days, joon" —, wearing corny christmas themed clothes that have his students cringing, buying the starbucks drinks that he actually really likes, that sort of thing.

his students actually really look forward to the christmas season, because all the professors all seem to lighten up and become childish. the majority of the staff at ilsan highschool are young, in their mid twenties, meaning they can joke around with the students as easily as other teenagers do. and in december, things get wild: hyungwoo and wonho, the school's PE teachers (and also husbands), start showing up in matching mr and mrs claus outfits to their lessons, wonho realising how hard girls have it in skirts, especially when teaching football; luna and amber, the physics teachers, start throwing mistletoe at student couples in classes, and showing up with ridiculous reindeer or elf headbands; youngjae and jinyoung, respectively the english and drama teachers, skateboard down the hallways blasting mariah carey whilst everyone's in class. all in all, the teachers are pretty cheery during this time.

and then there's yoongi.

namjoon and yoongi met in their first year of doing a teaching course at a college in daegu, yoongi's hometown. yoongi was trying to get a masters degree in technology to become an IT teacher, namjoon doing the same with maths, and they just happened to get roomed together in student dorms. cliché, i know. they started dating within the last year of college, whereas they became known as a brainy power couple, but people found them quite funny; namjoon was — and still is — a messy, 6 foot tall math nerd who loved big hoodies and who always wore glasses, whereas yoongi was and definitely still is a technology master, with several tattoos, piercings, who always wore black clothing with neon accents, always had big headphones on, and who threatened people a lot.
