AUGUST, 2008

NAMJOON LOOKED TENDERLY at the face of his sleeping love, the younger boy's head resting on the soft pillow of the seaside hotel they'd stayed in for the past few weeks.

jeongguk, the moon child, was illuminated in the light of the very planet he served, silver light cutting across his delicate face, features gorgeously imperfect.

namjoon sighed and let out one last puff of smoke from his ending cigarette, leaning over the balcony and observing his master, the sea, hitting the rocks below. one more week, one more week until he'd have to wait another ten years to meet the moon child. summer was ending, which meant namjoon had to go back to being a servant of the sea, and jeongguk back to being a servant of the moon; until they'd hopefully meet again, in 2018, when they'd both be relieved of their one hundred years of service.

one hundred years. and yet namjoon got to spend three months with his soulmate every ten years. it hardly seemed fair. the servant of earth, kim seokjin, got a break every five years, and he didn't have a soulmate that he dedicated his life to. namjoon did, and it hurt him to know he would probably never see jeongguk again after this week.

"joonie?"

gguk's sweet, sleep-soft voice hit namjoon's ears like a piano melody, and the older turned around. jeongguk was half sitting up in bed, shirtless, his pink highlighted hair a true mess, and his eyes puffy and pink from sleep. he looked like a masterpiece. a questioning look was on his face, and that combined with the nickname he used on namjoon made the sea spirit melt.

"why're you outta bed?" gguk asked, sentences weakly strung together with his tiredness. "'s cold. c'me back." he almost whined the last sentence, and namjoon complied, settling beside jeongguk in the azure linen sheets.

"what's up, joon-joon?" jeongguk asked, voice gentle as his hand caressed the side of namjoon's face. the older man shook his head in silent response, leaning in to kiss jeongguk tenderly on the lips. there were tears in his eyes at the thought of leaving his beloved jeongguk, but he wouldn't allow the younger boy seeing him cry. he just wouldn't.

"'m okay, moonbeam. don't you worry about me," namjoon reassured, a hand on jeongguk's beautifully thin waist. mother of all earth, he was going to miss this boy so much. he'd miss his laugh, his adorable bunny smile, how he'd force namjoon to do things he actually ended up enjoying, how he'd laugh at namjoon's attempts at jokes and always try to cheer the older male up. he'd miss everything about his ggukie.

"sing me that song again," jeongguk mumbled, half-asleep. "yknow, the moon one... the one about the movie and the blue light and the lonely bird. w'nna fall asleep to it " jeongguk may have not made any sense to anyone else, but namjoon knew what he was asking for. the older boy smiled gently, kissing jeongguk before beginning to sing the song he'd penned for the boy ten years ago.
