Body Gears (Poem)

85 4 4

Today I took a moment

to think about myself

(Not the self part,

the me part,

the mind-and-soul part,

but the my part, the belongs-to-me part)

Skin

(Wrinkled across the palm,

subtly pointed finger-pads)

Bone

(Linked together

like puzzle pieces)

Eyes

(The smooth non-feeling

of blinking, or the muscle-pinching

of squishing eyelids)

Ears

(Touch-soft folds of skin)

I always used to think about

the miraculous in-folds

and little pink cells

hiding in brain tissue

(beneath the thick bone skull)

Now I'm thinking how these

twist-turn body gears

work too

(and that's more than a little amazing).
