Your Place (Poem)

I don't know why you saw me,

why suddenly you turned your head--

why with a nick, a click, and a slippery snap,

you fell right into place.

It wasn't the one I had reserved,

marked with your name, a number, a date.

It was an empty place I didn't know was empty

until you walked in and sat right down.
