• CHAPTER ELEVEN •
THORNS AROUND A ROSE
••••♛••••

I eyed the map on the table of highlander, reading through list of taxes and residences that had piled next to me.

It was my first week since being named Queen yet I didn't feel I had done much, I felt like I was just standing around and looking pretty, and was about to go insane if I didn't progress in something.

Holgan was next to me, looking through the information and keeping me company, he hadn't left my side since the coronation- and I never felt safer.

"Could you hand me the one about the health crisis, I need to stamp it off." I murmured.

"I have to say, all our training might have been hard, but it was much easier than this...this is boring." He says, walking over with a pile of papers in his hands as I laughed at how he did not fit into the role at all.

A knock sounded as Casey walked in, face covered. I tried to keep him distance from the council members since the coronation- especially Kelling who had seen him numerous times when he would sell information. The moment they recognised him, they would know I was onto to them, so I sent him away.

"Your Majesty.."

"Casey, I told you to stay put. Holgan is around 24/7 I can't risk you being seen." I ordered, as he shut the door firmly behind him.

"You told me to keep my eyes and ears open, I have something important- the council members are having meetings without you.."

"What?" Me and Holgan say at the same time.

"It's been going on since the coronation. One is even on right now-"

"How do you know." Holgan asked.

"I saw one of Kellings...escorts. She was talking to other councils members chamber ladies and they all came together to have a meeting in the hall..."

"How dare they! Without telling me!" I go towards the door, turning to warn Casey.

"Stay put and leave quietly, I don't want you getting found." I told him as he nodded.

I left the study, walking as fast as I could to the private throne room, Holgan a few steps behind me. It was the only room in the palace we could discuss politics- so I knew exactly where to find them. This proved that I had to change the staff with my own people. The palace guards, maids that were all around me here couldn't be trusted, how could I not know they were here making plans about my country in my home and no one came and told me about it.

Ridiculous.

I barged in through the door, and see the shocked faces of some of the council members- having the decency to at least look guilty.

"Unbelievable...how long has this been going on?" I ask, moving towards the throne as they all bowed. Kelling came forward.

"Your majesty you've joined us, we've been calling for you-"

"Cut the bull crap, you did not call me to anything. How dare you make choices without my consent on my country." I tell them as all the ministers moves forward and bow to the floor in front of me. Well, almost all of them, Kelling kept his eyes level with mine, not even afraid of me.

"I am Queen- not you. You do not get to dictate what happens in this room without my consent. I don't know how my mother did things- but it's not sailing with me-"

"With all due respect, your still young my Queen, we felt it was better to make the hard decisions first and allow you time to adjust." Minister Ipal said.
