Chapter 19
Megan's POV
"And if I don't make it, tell my mama I love her." Freddie said dramatically.
"Oh hush. None of us are dying." I snapped nervously.
My heart was racing, my palms were sweating and I really needed to use the washroom.
"Let's go." I said in a low voice.
We ran along the bushes like ninjas would in the movies and slunk against the walls.
We entered through the backdoor and saw sign of no one. We left Freddie, Jo and Evan at the entrance as planned and Jale and I scoured for the control room.
The Shadows' headquarters was a lavish area indeed. Marble floors and chandeliers in every room, monstrous paintings adorned the walls. I cringed at the thought of where all this money must come from.
We found the control room and I hesitantly left Jale there.
"Hey Meg?"
"Yeah?" I whispered back.
"I love you." He said and kissed me passionately, running his hands in my hair.
I kissed him back almost sadly, like I was scared this would be the last time we would be together.
"I'll see you soon?" The statement sounded a bit like a question.
I gulped and nodded, trying to calm my racing heart.
I closed the door gently and walked in the middle of the hallway.
It was dark and I was alone in the middle of a gang's house pretty much.
How is it I'm not dead yet?
"Oh honey that can be arranged." A voice stated calmly behind me.
Aw f*ck.
I couldn't see him, but he seemed relatively close to me. "Chris." I smiled. "How nice of you to come welcome me." I said reaching for my gun, which wasn't there anymore.
"Looking for something?" He asked innocently.
"Nah. But I'm surprised you've come alone, it's not like you."
"It's not? Oh well let me fix that then." He said coyly.
Suddenly, the lights were on and I was face to face with Chris, his men and my now gagged-friends.
I raised a brow that said why-should-this-bother-me? Inside, I was screaming, crying, scared and confused. But luckily, Jale wasn't here.
"These aren't your friends are they, Megan? I was hoping I could borrow them." He smirked, emphasising on the word borrow.
"Oh you can kill them darling, so long as you don't lock them-
I stopped midsentence and widened my eyes like a deer caught between a car's headlights.
Meanwhile, Chris seemed to be growing more and more smug.
Oh he's so easy.
"What a great idea!" He rubbed his hands together. "Lock them up in the left wing." He barked to his men.
I watched, smirking inside, as they dragged my friends to wherever the hell the left wing was.
Man this place is big.
"Now that we're alone, I thought I'd tell you a little something."
I eyed him cautiously.
I think I have a tazor in my combat boot.
