Chapter 23

Scar's POV

"I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing. I pray to a god that I don't believe in." I sang softly.

"Cause I got time while she got freedom." Freddie and Jo sang along.

"Oh shut up." Tammy snapped.

"Hey, if I'm gonna die, I want one more kareoke night." I retorted.

She sighed and hung her head.

"Cause when a heart breaks no it don't break even, even, no." She sang as well.

Evan sat there and watched us, shaking his head disaprovingly. Although I caught him wording the lyrics occasionally.

Eventually, the song came to an end.

"So, like, homies? We dying?" Freddie asked.

"Nah man we're just here for decoration." I said sarcastically.

"Then we some fine a$$ pieces of decoration." He nodded in a approval.

"Preach." Tammy nodded.

"Word man." Evan supplied.

"Only the truth." I agreed.

Jo looked at us funny. "Why are you guys talking wack?"

"Bro listen up real nice, I didn't choose the ghetto life, the ghetto life chose me." I said seriously.

He rolled his eyes and plumped onto the cold cement floor.

"We need to get out of this place before your brain fully melts."

"I take offense to that."

"Good."

"Hey fellows break it up." A guard barked outside the cellar. "Get out, straight line, we're leaving."

"Oh goody! Are we gonna go shopping and braid each other's hair!" Evan hopped up and down.

"Shut it wise guy." The guard said.

"Ooh boy you need some listerine ASAP." Tammy said.

"I SAID SHUT IT!" He bellowed.

Tammy snickered. "You know what? Just skip listerine and use bleach."

"That's it." He snarled.

He grabbed Tammy by her hair and yanked her towards him.

Both Evan and I stepped forward but more guards stepped in and held us back.

The first guard dragged Tammy away from us. She thrashed and cussed.

"Great. Now I have to shampoo my hair." She said through gritted teeth before they disappeared out of sight.

Please please please let her be okay.

BANG.

THWACK.

Loud alarming sounds were heard. Like someone was being beaten.

Suddenly, I heard a bottle shatter and an ear splitting scream.

Then silence.

And then, footsteps.

Part of me hoped it was Tammy, the rest of me knew I was foolish.

Submerging from the shadows, was the first guard.

Only the first guard.

My heart sank.

Hell, it stopped beating altogether.

Tammy's not... gone.

She's not, she's just going to appear and laugh and it's all just a sick joke. She's not dead. She can't be dead. She can only be alive. It's not real. I'm going to walk down this hallway, turn right and she'll be there, alive.

It's not real. It's not real.

She'a not dead.

It's a joke.

It's a hilarious sick joke.

And so I laughed. I laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed.

I bent over laughing, wiping hysterical tears out of my eyes.

"C'mon." A guard shoved me and my friends down the hallway.

As I laughed and I laughed and I laughed and I laughed.
