Emilia's POV

The sound of bones breaking echoes through my head. The image of Alpha becoming deformed becomes etched into my mind. Skin showing through black fur and claws retracting. The distorted form of Alpha stands on two hind legs as the sound of his spine shifting breaks through the air.

"What's happening." I frightfully whisper.

All fur is gone and there is no trace of the wolf that I followed through the forest with. Standing in front of me is a naked image of Alaric, looking at me with a smug look.

"So now you know, darling."

I gasp as I open my eyes, now sitting up on the bed holding a hand over my chest. It couldn't be real, it's not possible. Taking a breath a look around to see that I'm back in my apartment. How did I get here? Swinging my legs over the side of the bed, I stand up and make my way towards the living room. Looking out the window I could see the morning sun shining through, the light casting onto the floor of the room. The question remains in my head on how I got back here. I notice my phone on the kitchen counter so I walk over to check if I had any notifications. I had a text and call from Logan that was from a couple days ago, when we were supposed to have our date. I didn't pay attention to his messages, but instead on the numerous calls from work. There was a voicemail left on the phone last night, I put in my passcode and hesitantly listen to the message.

"Emilia Daniels, you can consider this your termination phone call-"

My mouth hung open as I heard my boss talk, no she can't do this!

"you've been absent for work for almost a week, that is in violation of my policy. I already put up a new hiring ad so don't bother coming here to get your position back. Best of luck to you Ms. Daniels."

Then the voicemail ended, I was standing there with my phone tears welling up in my eyes. I couldn't give up so easily I had to at least try to explain myself. I grabbed my coat, shoes and purse and headed for the door. I raised an eyebrow when I noticed that my door was replaced with a new one, I'll have to ask my landlord about that later. Stepping out of my door I could no longer see the sun as rainclouds quickly rolled through the sky. Picking up my pace I practically ran to the shelter before anyone could take the hiring ad position.

Entering through the glass door I immediately see my boss. When she hears the little bell ding above the door she smiles but soon glares when she sees me. She quickly marched around the front desk and walk straight towards me with a heated look.

"You have some nerve coming here Emilia, and after what I told you on that message. We already have resumes submitted for your position so if you are here to beg me for your job back, don't even bother wasting your breath." She grits out while pointing a finger at my chest.

Tears well up in my eyes as I look down at the floor.

"I-I'm sorry, I couldn't control what happened but if you would just listen I coul-"

"Save your breath Emilia! You are fired." she yells.

My boss then turned her back to me and went back to the paperwork that was on her desk. I shook my head in frustration and anger as I ran out the door and into the parking lot. I took notice on how it was now raining, I didn't have an umbrella so my hair quickly started to get matted and wet. I felt sick to my stomach on my walk home knowing that I'm out of the job, how would I be able to afford rent now? Tears fell from my eyes as I wiped them away with my hand, but a sound behind me startled me and made me walk quicker. Hearing footsteps behind me I could only feel paranoid that someone was following me. I walked quicker and the footsteps started to match my pace. Anxiety bubbles in my chest, I notice my apartment in the distance so I pick up my pace even more. Right as I was about to turn the corner of the block I stop, the footsteps are gone. I let out a sigh as I groaned internally at my paranoia.

"Pull yourself together." I mumble.

Reaching my door I swiftly enter and close it. Looking around I realize that all this could be gone soon. I let out a sniffle as I feel more emotions rising, but I clench my fists together in hopes of stopping more tears from falling. Feeling like this would be a good time for a shower I walk over to my bathroom and look in the mirror. My brunette hair is soaking wet already from the rain, my hazel eyes are bloodshot and my cheeks and the tip of my nose are tinted red from the cold. Turning on the shower and stepping in I immediately let out a sigh as the hot water runs down my back and causes the room to steam up. Closing my eyes momentarily I try to relax, but the echoing sound of bones breaking plays like a broken record. Taking in a deep breath I try to tell myself that it wasn't real, but the sounds of the bones cracking and breaking keep playing in my mind. I let out a frustrated whine as I step out of the shower and wrap a towel around my body.

"I need a drink, there's something wrong with me." I groan.

Going towards the kitchen I couldn't help but notice a note placed on the counter. Where did this come from? I held up the small white paper that looked like it was ripped from a notebook, my eyes widened at the message,

"It wasn't a dream."

--------------

a bit of a filler in the story, this chapter to me was boring but I felt like getting back to Emilia's personal life was important. Alaric and Logan will be back soon.
