Difference 7. She saves heart patients. He saves trauma patients.

Meredith glanced over at her sister in-law and sighed. After being kicked out of the OR, Amelia couldn't stop crying. Honestly this crying was driving her insane but she didn't have heart to say something about it. When life gave her heartbreaks, she threw them away in a jar then crushed them up so she could drop them off the helipad.

That was metaphorically of course.

She wished she could crush all her heartbreaks into a jar then drop them off the helipad, maybe it would fall on someone and she could get a pretty great case. Amelia was more normal and she just threw her heartbreak into her eyes and cried.

"Amelia he'll be fine."

"But-"

"Just shut up."

The girl looked up at the ceiling in worry and sniffed a couple times. Meredith grabbed her hand and clutched it tightly, hoping she would calm down. "Cristina is going to save him. Your boyfriend is going to live."

She felt bad for saying her boyfriend, she never thought Owen was the same after Cristina left, and the way he looked at Amelia wasn't the same. It was obvious that most people who knew Cristina thought so too, but none of them had the guts to say anything. The former army surgeon had gone through enough already. She didn't even know if they were properly dating.

Baby Leo was in Betty's arms, sucking his thumb happily. She felt so bad for all they were to go through.

Everyone knew that this was extremely dangerous except for Leo, who's innocence was the only bright thing in this room. Even Zola, Bailey, and Ellis knew that this could be the end for Uncle Owen.

"Isn't Uncle Owen supposed to be finished now mommy?" Asked Bailey. His eyes gleamed with a childish curiosity Meredith would die to have again. Being an adult really was terrible. You're heart was like your bones. The older you were, the harder they were to heal.

"He should be out soon." Meredith smiled and patted the head of her five-year old.

"Is he going to die?"

Meredith didn't know whether she should lie or not. As far as she knew, he could be dead at the moment.

"I don't know honey, we just have to cross our fingers and hope, ok sweetie?"

"Crossing our fingers isn't going to work." Said seven-year-old Zola. "Even if it does work we won't be powerful enough to save Uncle Owen."

The fact that Zola knew this didn't make her feel any better. She was so smart, and Meredith wondered if this was because she had to learn everything on her own.

"Auntie Cristina!" Cried Zola, who ran towards the cardio surgeon with excitement.

Cristina's shoulders slumped with weariness and Meredith's heart sank. The surgeon crouched down and lifted up Zola, talking to her with a large smile on her face and swinging her around. Then she ripped off her scrub cap and walked towards Amelia.

Meredith crossed her fingers.

Cristina took a deep breath and tears came out of her eyes.

Amelia started crying uncontrollably and Cristina smiled, making Meredith sit straighter. She was smiling, that would mean he lived.

He lived.

"Owen's alive." She said, crying a little harder.

Amelia paused, the watched the kids cheer and the face of Cristina light up. She threw her arms around her and sobbed into her arms. "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you."
