I yawn when I wake up in the morning. I glance at the clock. Eight thirty. I’m about to rush out of bed, when I realize there’s no Battle Team tryouts today. Ahh. My first lazy day this week. My head plops down on the pillow, but a loud pounding at the door interrupts the relaxation. I stumble out of bed, mumbling a few foul words under my breath. How dare they interrupt me when I’m about to go sleep. Again. I swing open the door, and see Payson. He smirks at me in my baggy tshirt and sweats.
“Hey Ramaya. How’s it going?”
“Go away.” I try to slam the door in his face, but he wedges his foot in between before it shuts. I groan loudly.
“Wanna come eat breakfast with me?”
“I have plans." I look longingly at my bed. “So no. Goodbye Payson.” With that, I actually manage to slam the door in his face. I leap into bed, and fall asleep.

Another knock at the door. I check the clock. Nine fifteen. I’m ready to get up now, I guess. Rubbing my eyes, I walk over to the door, and swing it open. Kaelie is standing there.
“Hey Ram. Brooke, Gavin and I were wondering if you wanted to open the Battle Team letters together."
“Yeah. Okay. I’ll go. Just give me five minutes to get changed.”
“Meet us at our usual table.”
“Kay.” I close the door with a smile. I change into jeans and a gray shirt. I pull my thick white sweater over, and top it with my leather jacket. I pull on my lace up boots over socks. Then, I grab the envelope lying by my door, and walk to the Dining Room.
I spot Kaelie, Gavin, and Brooke at our table, joined by Alanna and Rhodes.
“I’ll be right over. I need to grab my food.”
“ No worries! Rhodes got you some.” Kaelie says.
I smile at Rhodes, and hug him. Alanna grins at this. He slides me my plate, stacked with waffles. Then he slides me a mug of tea.
“Thanks.” I grin. I gobble down my food.
“Okay. Let’s get to it!” Brooke says excitedly.
“Who goes first?” I question.
“I’ll go.” Gavin says. He rips the envelope and takes out a letter.
“Read it out loud!” Alanna demands.
“Alright.” He cringes, but then takes a deep breath. “Wait. I’m nervous. Can Ramaya do it?”
I’m surprised. “Sure! Of course!” I take the letter from his hands, and start reading.
“Gavin Jadot,
We are pleased to inform you that you have made it into Battle Team. However, you were not one of the best candidates for the air team, and therefore, you will be a 'back-up member.' Please do not see this as a bad thing, very few fourth years did exceptionally well. You are still expected to show up to practice and come to battles. If a fellow team member gets hurt, you will be the first to fill his/her spot. The schedule for practices and potential battles will be delivered to you soon. We would like to congratulate you on your efforts, and on making the team.
Sincerely, the Battle Team staff.”
He’s standing there in shock.
“Gavin! You made it dude!” Rhodes pats him on the back.
