I find Brooke waiting for me at the reception/meeting area in the Battle Team facility.
"Ramaya!" Brooke squeals. "You did great! I can't believe you, my best friend, was the last one standing. Out of everybody!" She throws her arms around me.
I grin. "Thanks for coming. I know your team didn't play today, so..."
"I wouldn't dream of not coming. That's just not an option." She giggles happily.
"Where are Kaelie, Alanna and Rhodes?" I inquire, their absence becoming present.
"Oh. They were here. They just went to set up the dining room party with Gavin."
"Awesome! Really?"
"Yeah. C'mon let's go outside." Brooke has to take the elevator, which is really slow. I just tell her I'll fly up and meet her up top.
When I land outside, I see none other than Yvette. I roll my eyes. Please not this. I was in such a good mood. She turns, and her golden blonde hair sways perfectly as it lands behind her back.
"Well well well. If it isn't Ramaya. The new star of Battle Team right?" She asks innocently.
"What are you doing here Yvette?" I grumble, rolling my eyes again in the process.
"What do you think I'm doing? I'm here waiting for my boyfriend to come up." She sneers.
"Well, you're waiting by the wrong entrance. This is the air one, and-"
"Having a boyfriend is great. You know? Too bad you'll never get one."
"Too bad for you that I already have one." I shoot back, extremely annoyed.
Her facial expression changes, from amused, to something else. I'm playing with fire, and I know it's dangerous. I can't expect what will come out of Yvette.
"You know? Air is battling fire next week." She says in a low voice, our eyes connected. "Too bad you won't be able to participate."
"Excuse me? I'm participating next week no matter what. Nothing you say or do will change that." I reply with confidence.
"But what about your broken ankle?" She asks, with that same innocent pout, which really isn't so innocent. She slowly starts walking towards me. I walk backwards, so there's still distance between the two of us.
"What broken ankle?" I ask. But Yvette's face is now only inches away from mine. She shoves me, and I topple over a rock. My left shoe is stuck in mud, and suddenly I feel a sharp pain in my other ankle. I cry out in pain. God! It hurts! Yvette's practically cackling in laughter. Just then, I hear an elevator ding.
Brooke sees me immediately, and a silent tear escapes my eye and runs down my cheek. "Oh my gosh! Ramaya!" Brooke rushes to my side. I look up to see Yvette gone. The sneaky jerk. "Ramaya! Ramaya!" Brooke's waving her hand in front of my face. "Ramaya what happened?"
I bite my lip as more tears run down my face. "Yvette happened."
I see General Forge, Mr. Farefax, and Ms. Benting burst up from the opening, chatting and smiling. Then, Forge sees us, and his face turns serious. Flying over as quickly as I've ever seen him, he barks "Someone get this girl to the hospital!"
Ms. Benting flies over and lands next to where I'm now sitting. "Ramaya. Are you okay?" There's a lot of concern in her voice.
"I don't know. My ankle really hurts."
Mr. Farefax lands next to Ms. Benting.
"Try to move it," she instructs softly. It takes all of my strength to move it. But in the end, I still end up shrieking in pain.
