Brooke and Payson.
Oh god. This cannot turn out good. My only thought is that Brooke thinks she has a score to settle. My score. Not hers. I jump up, and grab my crutches quickly. But they've already reached the table. I can't stop this now. Brooke squares her shoulders and sets her jaw before speaking to Yvette, who's now standing right in front of her now, with an amused look on her face.
"Yvette."
"Fourth-year water element Ramaya always hangs out with." Replies Yvette.
"My name is Brooke." Brooke mutters through clenched teeth.
"Whatever. Why are you here? I'm busy, so make it quick." She snaps.
"Right. I'm sorry I'm interrupting your session of not eating and gossiping." Brooke replies with a sarcastic sneer.
Yvette doesn't have a comeback for this, so she glares at Brooke. "Fine. What do you want?"
"I want to set you straight about hurting Ramaya." Everyone remotely near us in the room is listening by now, and they all raise their eyebrows at that comment.
"That happened months ago." Yvette replies nonchalantly.
"I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about yesterday morning. Does that ring a bell?"
Yvette looks so mad, ready to punch Brooke, even. Luckily, Payson steps in before she can.
"What pushed you to do it? The raging jealousy that you were replaced by Ramaya as the best Battle Team member?" I guess his purpose wasn't to cool Yvette down, but to redirect the anger.
"Look at that. The little girl needs backup from her big bro." Brooke tries to pounce at Yvette, boiling with rage. Luckily, Payson pulls her back by her waist before she can do any damage to Yvette.
"I'm here to keep Brooke from doing anything crazy. It's proving to be hard. There's no telling if she'll slip through my hands." He glares long and hard at Yvette.
"I don't need you to keep her from doing anything. My elemental skills are far superior to her's anyways." Yvette snaps.
"Wanna bet, pretty girl?" Brooke sneers.
"Sure! Why not?" Yvette replies in her seemingly innocent voice. It makes me want to puke.
"No! You aren't going to compare powers. At least not here. Remember why we're here Brooke." Payson seems to have a calming effect on Brooke.
"Right. To set her straight."
"Nothing more, nothing less."
Yvette rolls her eyes at the little pep talk, even though it's to keep Brooke from hurting her. "Wow." She laughs loudly when Brooke turns to face her again.
"Shut up Yvette. It'll do you, and the rest of the school, good. You're just some egotistical jerk who goes out of her way trying to make other people look and feel bad." Brooke says in a calm tone, without a quaver to her voice.
When she's about to walk away, Yvette makes a big mistake. "Why should I listen to you? Why should I take a weak little fourth-year's advice? Why are you even friends with Ramaya? If you ask me, or anyone of my friends, she's the egotistical jerk. Booting me off of the Battle Team so she can be the star, rejecting a kind offer rudely, I mean, what did I ever do to her?"
A kind offer?
"I have answers to all those questions. I'll gladly answer them, just be prepared to have your head spinning by the end." Brooke says again in her calm voice.
