I woke up the next morning with my head on Louis lap. I wondered what we'd do today, then reality dawned on me.it was the first day of School. The day I dreaded the most. Argh. I quickly woke Louis up. Once he opened his eyes, I fired questions at him "it's the first day of school, right? Who's driving me there? Am I going to be late? Is there a dress code? Am I going to buy lunch at school?  When does school end? Can I please not go to school today?  Do you remember how to drive to school?" He looked at me sleepily and answered all the questions. " Yes, me, no  I don't know, yes,16:00, of course not, yes oh wait  I don't!" "What Louis, didn't, you check? I exclaimed. Now how was I going to go to school? "Don't worry I think Harry can drive you," Louis said, running his hands through his hair. "Ok then, I'll go up and get ready, you go check and see if Harry's awake!" "I know, I know." I heard Louis say, then I went back to my room to get ready. I looked through my closet fretfully. What was I going to wear? I didn't know if the people at WillowFalls dressed casual, smart or dressy. Eventually, I chose an orange tank top, because I was so nervous my entire body was sweating. it didn't feel like fall at all, it felt like the middle of the summer. I paired it with a pair of dark green jeans and also put on a light washed denim jacket. For my hair, I just put on a green bow headband and let my hair down. Afterward's, I put on my black high top sneakers. I looked at myself through my mirror. I looked OK, I guess. Kind of laid back but still like I made some effort. After changing, I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. By the time I went back downstairs, all the boys were up and ready, including Zayn. I tried to eat some cereal, but it stuck to my throat. I was too nervous to eat. " Come on Passion." Said Zayn. "As I've said a million times before, you're going to be fine. Don't Worry! Act normal like you do with us and all your classmates will be fighting to be friends." I nodded, my smile a little strained. I forcefully gulped down a mouthful of cereal, then stood up, swinging my backpack up on my shoulders. "Can we go now, Harry?" I asked. "I want to arrive a bit early." "Of course babe." He replied and went to get the keys, which he thankfully located in two minutes. "Bye guys," I said to the others. "Wish me luck." "I'll give some of my Irish luck," Niall said, pulling me into a hug. "Thanks, Niall," I smiled at him, then went to hug the others. I wave at them one last time when I went out the front door, and they waved back solemnly like I was a soldier going off to war. I jumped into the car and Harry drove off. He turned on the radio, and we listened to the weather. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and just reached out to turn off the radio."The radio's making me even more nervous," I explained to Harry. "Tell me truthfully, did people bully you when you were in school?" "They just teased me sometimes about my curly hair, but that's all," Harry replied. "Not meaning to boast, but I was quite popular in my school, especially among girls, Once...." "Oh, shut up." I said." I get it." I was silent in the remainder of the journey, and when the car pulled up to the front of the school, I was too petrified to move. Harry got out of the car and helped me open the car door. "Come on now. " He said. "You'll be alright." I still cowered in my seat. "Oh, come on!" Harry said, getting a little impatient, "I don't want any of your classmates recognizing me."  I slowly stepped out of the car, looking around. The school seemed to have grown a hundred times larger than yesterday. "I've never been this nervous in my life," I said to Harry. He hugged me tightly, then kissed me gently on top of my head. "You'll be fine, sweetheart, trust me." He let go then pushed me towards the school's door. I took a deep breath and stepped inside. Even though I came here half an hour, the hallways were a lot of students rushing around, and teachers trying to gain control of the students but failing. I started working my way through the crowd to get to my locker. most of the students ignored me completely, but a few sized me up curiously. I arrived at my locker, panting. I opened my locker and started shoving books inside. Suddenly, a girl came over and opened her locker, which was right next to mine. She had long blonde hair with a green baseball cap put sideways on her head. She was wearing this cool graphic tee over a plain long-sleeved black shirt and khaki pants. She looked very chic and fashionable, in a cool tomboyish way. "Whew!" She said to herself after getting some books out of her locker and slamming it shut. "I just barely escaped from Vanessa and her crew!" Then she noticed me. "Oh, hi. You must be new!" She said. "I'm Lillian, but can call me Lilly, what's your name?" "I'm Passion," I answered, feeling a bit shy. "Interesting name!" She exclaimed, "I'm thirteen years old, Grade 8." "Same, I'll turn 13 in December." "Cool!" Lilly said, "What's your timetable?" I handed it to her. She scanned through it. "Awesome! We have loads of classes together! I can show you to homeroom!" Of course I already knew how to go there, but I let her take the lead. On the way, she chattered happily. "I'm so glad that you're here." Lilly said. "Your locker has always been empty for like a few years, and last term it started to smell like dirty socks and rotten cheese." "Ew!" I said. "But it doesn't still smell like that now, does it?" "Not anymore! The janitor Mr. Hudson cleaned it all up before you came." "Good to hear!" I said. I could never have endured the smell of socks and rotten cheese. We arrived at the classroom. The stuff the boys wrote yesterday was still there. I smiled slightly when I saw it. Lilly, on the other hand, laughed out loud. "That is so hilarious!" She giggled, clutching her stomach. "Wonder who made that up? it's ingenious!" "I know right" I replied. "The person who made that up is so clever." After Lilly calmed down, we looked around for seats. Lilly said the teacher, Miss Carmen lets us sit wherever we want, so we choose two seats by the window near the front of the classroom. As more classmates filled into the classroom, I asked Lilly about the class. "Who's in the popular clique then?" I asked her. "Vanessa Cuth and her puppets." She replied, pointing at a group of people at the back of the classroom. It was easy to see who was Vanessa. She sat on a table, constantly flicking her dark brown curls, laughing with the crowd around her and applying multiple layers of lip gloss. She saw Lilly pointing at her and she shot her a dirty look. "I'm guessing she doesn't like you then?" I asked Lilly. "Yeah. I'm the dork and she's the queen." She said, then suddenly looked at me, horrified. "You'll still be my friend with me even if I'm such a loser, won't you?"  "Of course." I smiled at Lilly warmly. She was dorky in a good way, but very nice and cool too! I knew it would be fun to hang out with her. "Yay!" She exclaimed. "Then we could be dorks together!" A teacher presumably Miss Carmen, walked into the classroom. She was quite young and pretty but was very strict. She told us firmly about the things we must do (respect teachers and blah blah blah), and the things we mustn't do (write on the blackboard without teacher's permission). Here she pointed at the blackboard disapprovingly and I stifled a giggle. The rest of the morning passed by peacefully. I had all the lessons with Lilly, and we had fun hanging out. The trouble came at lunchtime. Me and Lilly were sitting by the dork table, which so far consists of Passion Tomlinson ( It gives me thrills just to say my last name. Tomlinson.) and Lillian Avery. Yeah, we're so unpopular no one even wants to sit with us, but I don't mind. Nothing else really matters when I have a best friend with me. Yes, best friend. Me and Lilly really clicked. Lilly doesn't have any other friends, so it's just me and her. I'm perfectly fine with that. I'd rather be friends with a so-called loser than those stupid 'Populars.' Vanessa and her puppets just sicken me. They're always twirling their hair around their fingers and giggling at everything a cute boy says. Every time they go to the bathroom, they re-apply lip gloss and blow kisses at their own reflection. Seriously when that guy Julian something walks past, they are flirty with a capital F. Anyways, Lilly and I were just eating our cheeseburger and minding our own business. when Vanessa sashayed to our table and pointed her manicured nail at me. "Hey, you, Passion Tomlinson, I know who you are." She said. "I know your dad is my dad's brother. We know how you forced your dad to drink beer before he drove. We know how you accidentally-on-purpose killed your parents off. You watch out because we'll get you back. So there." She smirked at me before sashaying back to her table, laughing with her puppets as if her conversation with me didn't occur. I stared after her for a few seconds, completely blown off by what she said. Her dad was my dad's brother? I knew that my dad had a brother, but we never met. And what she said about me killing my parents? Nonsense. But what she said at the end scared me. They'd get me back? She sounded serious.I was in big trouble now. Big time. "Hello?" Lilly waved her hand in front of my face, looking at me with eyes as big as saucers. "You did what? And you're related to Vanessa? Are you kidding me?" "Of course not, Lilly." I laughed shakily. "I would never accidentally-on-purpose kill my parents, no matter how much I hated them. And I didn't know I was related to Vanessa." "But wait a second." Lilly said, Looking confused. "Your surname's Tomlinson and her's is Cuth. How can your dads be brothers?" "My surname's not really Tomlinson," I explained to her. "I got adopted. Before my surname was Miller, but it was my mother's surname, so it could be possible."Oh my gosh!" Lilly shrieked. "My best friend is related to my worst enemy? This world is not working properly!" "I know," I said. "And you heard what she said? She said she'll get me back. I think she meant it." "This is so scary!" Lilly said."It's like something in a movie! She might kill you or something! What are you going to do?"  "I don't know." I said, rubbing my forehead.  "You should trash her locker first thing tomorrow." Lilly said, looking important "Show her that you're not a loser and you'll not die without a fight." I looked at her, shaking my head. "Oh, and maybe you should make a slogan or something, like those rebel calls during American civil war." She added as an afterthought. "Lilly you don't understand how serious this is. "I told her. "It's not just a game. I remember how my dad used to talk about how violent his brother was, even worse than my dad himself, which is saying something. And he might hurt my adoptive family, like revenge or something! I can't let that happen!" "Oh." Said Lilly, looking genuinely worried."Could you and your adoptive family immigrate somewhere far, far away? Like the North Pole or something?" I blinked at her. I wasn't sure whether she was joking or not. "Never mind, Lilly, I'll figure something out myself." I threw the remainder of my cheeseburger in the bin because I had no appetite left, and went to the library. I wandered among the shelves of books, thinking. I was sure Vanessa meant business. She might not hurt me physically, but her dad, a.k.a. my uncle might. I couldn't let them hurt the boys. I'll just have to hide from Vanessa from now on. UGH. I had imagined my first day to be terrible, but not terrible in this way. Looking on the bright side though, I've made one awesome friend. Speaking of which, I must've been such a bad friend, leaving Lilly alone in the cafeteria. I hurried to the next lesson, Biology, and saw Lilly already in the lab. "Hey." I said, slipping in the seat next to hers. "Sorry for running off just now, I just needed some time to think." "It's Ok." Said Lilly. "So, what's your plan? Are you gonna immigrate somewhere?" "Nope." I replied. "The only plan I have right now is to avoid Vanessa. "Good plan works with me too." Lilly commented, taking her notebook out and drawing stars on it. We stopped chatting then because the teacher just walked into the room.We didn't get any time to talk the rest of the day either, as we didn't share any classes. I met up with Lily at the end of the day outside the school gates."How're you going home?" She asked me. "My brother's coming to pick me up, I think." I said. Sure enough, I saw Louis' black convertible parked somewhere up the road, probably because he wanted to avoid attention. "Ooooh! Can I meet him? His family adopted you, right?" "Um, sorry. He's kinda, uh, sick right now. Maybe next time?" "Fine then! Lily said, "By the way, ask your parents if you can come to my house tomorrow after school!" "I will, thanks for inviting me!" I smiled and waved at Lily. "See you tomorrow!"  I kept the smile on my face until I got to the car, For Lily's sake. My smile immediately turned upside down when I went inside the car. "Hey, I see you've survived!" Louis said, starting the car. "Barely." I replied. "And I see you've learnt how to drive to my school. "I did," Louis chuckled. "How was school then? It can't be too bad, can it? I saw you made a friend! You were talking with that girl wearing a green baseball cap." "Yup, she's Lilly and she's awesome, but that's basically the only good part of today. You'll never believe what happened." "What?" "There's this popular girl at school, Vanessa Cuth. And today at lunchtime, she said our dads were brothers. she accused me of killing my parents. Then she said she'd get me back. Her dad's violent, I know it. I'm in trouble. We all are. I'm scared. I don't want to get hurt again. I thought everything would be fine when I got adopted. I thought what was past was past." Tears unnoticed by both of us were streaming down my face. "You could've broken that to me easier, you know. My life is in danger and you just tell me. Wow." Louis said. "Please don't joke now, I'm serious." "Well, I don't joke now, I'm serious." "I can feel that she's not." I said, wiping away the tears. "When she was talking to me, I could see this glint in her eye, just like my father used to have right before he hurt me. If you've been through what I've been through you'd see it too." At this time, we were already pulling up to the driveway to our home. "You go tell the other boys about this issue, and we'll figure something out together, Ok?" Louis told me. I nodded, then jumped out of the car. I found the boys in the living room. "Hey, you're back!" They said, coming over to hug me. "Tell us about your day!"  "Well, the good thing was I made a friend, Called Lilly. She's great fun to hang out with. But something really terrible happened too." I repeated to them what Vanessa said, and they all looked quite shocked."This is really serious." Said, Liam, grimly. "This Vanessa sounds evil." "I'm really scared." I said quietly. "I'm afraid they'll somehow forbid you to adopt me and i'll need to go and live them instead. Then they'll torture me to death." "Don't think about it, Pash." Said Niall, patting me on the shoulder. "As we said before, no one's gonna take you away from us." "How about you ignore this Vanessa person for now and just go to school normally," Zayn suggested, "If she really hurts you then we"ll do something about it." "And don't worry." Harry added, "That uncle of yours will never set foot near you. Feeling more comfrorted, I went back to my bedroom, and did some of my homework to distract me from Vanessa. That night I went to sleep in Niall's room. I could'nt bear the thought of being in my own room. I felt much safer sleeping in Niall's arms. When I woke up once in the night, he gave me some chocolate he secretley stores under his pillow, then he sang to me until I fell back asleep. I woke up the next morning to the ringing of Niall's alarm clock.Ugh,another day of school, I thought as I hauled myself out of bed. On the plus side though, only 4 more days left to go.
