As we drove off leaving a rather puzzled Lily behind, I asked Louis urgently, "What is it? Are one of the guys hurt?" "Nope." He replied while concentrating on the road. "We have a concert tonight, but we forgot about it until just now." "Oh," I said, feeling relieved. At least the boys are OK. "The concert is in fifteen minutes." He added. "Oh no!" Maybe I shouldn't have felt that relived after all. "What are you going to do about me then?" "Shove you in the rubbish bin, duh!" Louis replied. I must've looked very taken aback because he quickly said,
I'm just kidding! Our plan is we invited a fan to go backstage and watch us perform and after the show, she gets to hang out with us." "So I'm the fan?" I asked, more of a statement than a question. "Uh huh." Louis nodded. After ten minutes of Louis driving way past the speed limit, we arrived at the arena where the boys would be performing. Louis took me backstage, where I was introduced to the people there as the lucky fan.
At last, there was a beep signalling that the boys should get onstage. I hugged the boys and wished them good luck, then I sat down on the floor by the stage where I was hidden from the audience by curtains, and watched my first ever One Direction concert. First, the boys sang some songs that I knew, like Best Song Ever, but then they started singing a zillion of other 1D songs that I didn't recognize. I think I was the only person in the arena that didn't know the songs. Everyone else was singing along. And I was supposed to be their sister!
The concert was going pretty well, then the boys started fooling around. While Niall was singing his solo, Louis took a bottle of water and mimed pouring it over Niall's head. That made the crowd scream loudly. Then Louis actually opened the bottle of water and was walking over to Niall. I almost wanted to yell out a warning but stopped myself in time. I watched while Louis emptied the entire bottle of H2O on Niall, soaking him. The audience roared with laughter, and Louis looked over and winked at me. I looked back at him disapprovingly.
And that was only the start. A few songs later, a fan threw a bag of carrots at Louis. Louis caught it and started opening the bag, but Zayn got there first and snatched the bag out of Louis' hands. Louis started chasing Zayn, and Zayn threw the bag at Liam. That was the start of a five- minute chase. Finally, Louis pounced on Harry, who was holding the bag at the moment and snatched the bag from him. "Woohoo!"Louis yelled like a maniac he is and started swinging the bag around above his head like a cowboy's leash. A few carrots flew out of the bag and hit Louis' head. Louis pretended to die comically, leaving the audience in laughter. I sighed at him.
It didn't stop there. The next song was Gotta Be You. But from the way Harry sang it, the song might have been called Big Brown Poo or Wrong Size Shoe. The audience roared with laughter every time Harry changed the lyrics, and even I couldn't contain my laughter. But all the way through the boys kept straight faces while they were singing. I don't even know how they did that. After another few songs came to take a break. The boys came in to sit down and take a 1-minute rest while Niall went to change out of his soaked clothes.
"So, how did we do?" Zayn asked. "Well, you acted the same way you do at home..." But I was cut off by Liam. Liam raised his voice and said. "What a big fan you are! Thank you so much!" Then he whispered into my ear. "Remember, you're still a fan here. Don't mention anything from home, OK?" I nodded and mouthed a sorry at them. Then Niall came back and we were off again. In the second half of the concert, they went even madder, running around while singing and doing other stupid stuff. After another hour, the concert was finally over and the crowd reluctantly left the arena. The boys came back to change out of their stage clothes, then we headed to the car to leave. But suddenly one of the boy's assistants hurried over. "There are some fans over by the door. Can you go and meet them for a while? There's only a few, so it shouldn't take too long."
The boys looked at me, wavering. I knew what was going on in their minds. "I don't mind," I said, pushing them towards the direction of the door."Go on." They walked towards the squealing fans while I trailed along behind them. They went and signed stuff for them, then stood there and chatted for a few minutes. I leaned against a pillar and listened to Niall making conversation with a girl who had chocolate brown locks and deep blue eyes. "Hello, love. What's your name? Niall asked as he signed a CD case for the girl. "Cadence." The girl answered quietly. "That's a beautiful name sweetheart," Niall said and handed the case back to her, which she received with a smile. "Thanks." She said, both for the CD case and for the compliment.
"You're welcome. So, what do you like doing, Cadence?" "Playing the guitar." "Yay! The guitar is so awesome." There was a shine in Niall's eyes when he was talking to Cadence that I've never seen before. I could see it in Cadence's eyes too. The two of them talked for a long time about the guitar, then Niall asked Cadence about her family. "Do you have any siblings?" Niall asked. "No," Cadence replied. "My parents divorced when I was one year old. I live with my dad now, but he doesn't really care about me. I think he's going to kick me out sooner or later, then I'll probably be like homeless or something. I really don't know what to do."
I saw Niall getting a bit teary eyed. "I'm really sorry," Niall said, giving Cadence a hug. "Here's my number. Call me if you ever need help. I'll be more than willing." Cadence stared at the numbers that Niall had scribbled on a piece of paper and smiled. "Thank's a lot, Niall," Cadence said. The two of them continued talking until long after the other fans left. While me and the other boys stood there waiting for Niall to finish, I could see a glow in Niall's face as he chatted to Cadence. When he finally came back to us, he seemed a few times more cheerful than before.
"Why so smiley, Niall?" I asked me once we were in the car. "Nothing." He replied, but I knew that something was definitely going on. I waited until we got home to ask him again. The boys were doing other stuff, so there was only me and Niall in the room. "You really like Cadence, don't you?" I asked him, looking him straight in the face. "How do you know?" Niall said, fingering the sofa with his hand. "I saw the way you were looking at her," I replied, then persisted. "So, do you?" Niall took a deep breath. "I think so."
"Well, then it's good that she's got your number now, isn't it?" Niall nodded. "Do you think she likes me?" He asked hopefully. "I seriously think she does," I answered him, thinking of the way Cadence smiled every time Niall looked at her. Niall's face lit up. "Then I hope her father really does kick her out!" He clapped his hand over his mouth. "What did I just say?" We both laughed. Liam walked into the room, raising his eyebrow at us. "What's so funny?" He asked, plopping down on the sofa and tapping away on his phone. "Nothing." We said in unison. Liam looked up. He seemed a bit suspicious.
"Anyways, Passion, what did you think about our performance?" "Quite good," I said, shrugging. Then I smiled wickedly. "Thought I heard your voice crack in Best Song Ever." "I hate you," Liam said and threw a cushion at me. "Whatever," I said smiling and went up to look for the other boys.
