Lily Knows

On Monday, I went to school with the hope that Vanessa would still be stuck with the dentist, or could have somehow died while she was cleaning her teeth. But, nope, my hope did not come true. Vanessa was very much alive and well when I got to school on Monday. She was standing with her group of puppets near the school entrance, chatting. I sighed. I turned and waved half-heartedly at Liam who was in the car. He waved back and gave me an encouraging smile, but I grimaced back.

Ok, here goes, I thought as I stalked pass Vanessa and towards my locker. She didn't give any indication that she noticed me. Good. I went to my locker where Lily was hanging about, probably looking around for me. "Hey, Lily," I said as I opened my locker and started taking books out.

"Hey." She said. "Did you see Vanessa is back?" "Of course," I replied, slamming my locker shut We started walking to our classroom. "She ignored me." Lily continued, "Did she ignore you too?" "Uh huh," I replied. Then the teacher came in and we shut up for a while. I doodled on my notebook aimlessly, thinking how great it would be if Niall and Cadence got together. I know, I know, they only met and I shouldn't be thinking of this kind of stuff, but at least it's more interesting than lame rockets that the teacher was droning on about. I saw Lily tear a piece of paper out of her notebook, scrawl something on it, then passed it to me. I did a quick check to see the teacher wasn't around, and I opened it.

L: My mum is going to the dentist after school. Can I go to yours for around 2 hours? P: Yeah, I guess. I'll have to text my parents to make sure. BTW, are you sure it's not the same dentist V went to? We continued this kind of aimless chat while I took out my phone. I saw that I had already received a text from Harry. Going to an interview later. You go home by yourself. We'll be back by then. Harry xx I replied, typing fast to make sure the teacher didn't see me.

Ok. L wants to come for 2 hours. Can She? Please??? pash ooo ( only hugs not kisses mwahaha) I got a reply a minute later. I opened the text up. I guess so. I need to ask Liam first. Harry (Fine.Hugs.) I rolled my eyes. Ask Liam? Seriously? why do you need to ask Li. Can't you decide for yourself? Thx anyways. I put my phone away and tried to concentrate on force and gravity, failing miserably. Finally, the hour of torture was over.

Me along with all my classmates walked out of the classroom like zombies. "What's the next lesson?" Lily asked me, yawning loudly. "Geography," I answered promptly. I had already memorized the timetable. "And it's OK, you can come to my house later." "Thanks," Lily said. We went into Geography and started another hour of boredom. It was in the middle of the lesson when the class was in half-slumber that Vanessa tossed a paper ball at me. I glanced at her. She mimed opening it. I ignored her and continued to write my notes, but curiosity got the better of me. I couldn't resist the temptation, so I reached out for the paper ball and started unfolding it. Inside was one sentence, and it was obviously written by Vanessa.

My dad will be here after school, you will get what you deserve. I sneaked another glance at her. She smiled back maliciously. I gulped. That was bad news. And the boys won't even be here with me. What perfect timing, I thought sarcastically. At least I'll be with Lily, and I don't think my 'uncle' will go too far. I crumpled the piece of paper up and shoved it in the back of my backpack, trying to forget all about it. Sure enough, five minutes later, my brain was already in sleep mode. I half-listened to what the teacher was saying, and half dreamed about becoming a best-selling author.

Two hours later, me and Lily were lining up in the lunch queue, trying to decide whether the California burrito or the mysterious meatloaf sounded worst. "I think I'll go with the meatloaf." Lily decided. "Ugh." I shuddered. "The burrito sounds less horrifying. I'll get the burrito." Another few minutes later, we were sitting down at our loser's table, examining the contents of our school lunch. Lily picked up a brown piece of brownish thing out of her meatloaf. "Do you think this is beef or dog poop?" She asked, staring at it. "Somewhere in between, I guess," I replied as I tried to swallow my slimy burrito.

"You know what? I think I'm not going to eat this anymore." "Me either." We both pushed our plates away simultaneously, then stood up and walked over to the oak tree. "What do you usually do at home?" Lily asked me as we swung up to a branch. I thought about it. Play stupid board games with the boys? Can't say that. Steal Harry's phone and read the fan's tweets for him? Can't say that either. Race Liam up and down the stairs? Nuh uh. At last, I decided to go with a safe answer.  "Oh, you know," I replied, trying to sound bored. "Listen to music, do homework, that kind of stuff." "I brought my skateboard. We could go practice later." "Ok."

I don't know how I got through the last few hours of school, but I did. I just kinda like sleepwalked around the school. When we got out of the prison school grounds, the sun was shining and I cheered up accordingly. That was before I saw the shadow of my father lurking near the rubbish bins. I blinked, and the man came out into the sun. It wasn't my dad. But that man had the same piercing blue eyes, raven black hair... I suddenly realized. It was my uncle. I tried to ignore him as I walked behind Lily. He didn't notice me, and when me and Lily were a hundred meters away from school, I heaved a sigh of relief. I was safe for now, I thought. "Wahoooooooo!" Lily yelled while skateboarding through the crowd of eager-to-leave students. I laughed and forgot my troubles, running after her. After we got past the crowd, Lily let me have a turn, and I was wobbling skateboarded a length of the road. "Good job." She said, tickling me so that I fell off. "Hey!" For the rest of the way, Lily skateboarded slowly while I tried to keep up.

"Do you have party clothes at your home?"  Lily asked out of nowhere. "Yeah, I guess so," I replied. The boys had brought some quite glamorous dresses for me to wear when to interviews or something. I had reminded them that I wouldn't even be seen when they have interviews, but they just brought them anyway. So those few dresses are just sitting in the back of my closet.

"Cool, we can play dress-up or something!" "Do girls are age even play dress-up anymore?" "Yes, they do. They just call it a different name. Try-on-their-mate's-clothes." I laughed. "Good one Lily." By then we were already a few houses away from home. Suddenly, I heard laughter from the kitchen window. It sounded horribly like Niall's. "Hey! I can hear your brothers!" Lily exclaimed, and started skateboarding over to the sound quickly.

"Wait!" I called out to her while frantically looking at my phone. There was a text message that I had missed. I opened it up as fast as I could, barely breathing. Sorry, L can't come. We need to come back home to get ready for the concert. Really sorry, tell her next time. Love you, Harry.

I gulped, then ran, trying to get ahead of Lily, but she was on her skateboard and was way faster than me. She skateboarded right through the open front door. I ran to catch up with her. "Wow," Lily said open-mouthed. "This place is big!" I hurried up to her.

"Listen, let's go up to my room to play first, OK? You can meet my brothers later." "But they're right here!" Lily said, motioning to the kitchen. She started skateboarding over there. I AM SO DEAD, I thought, but there was no stopping Lily. She skateboarded right into the kitchen but suddenly stopped dead in her tracks.

Hoping it was just a bad dream, I slowly walked into the kitchen. Lily looked from me to the boys, eyes wide open. The boys were looking at me, their expressions unreadable. One of my worst nightmares had come true. I took a deep breath, looking between the two of them.

"Boys, meet my best friend, Lily. Lily, One Direction."
