Chapter 6

February 27th

Isabella woke for the second morning in her new bed. She was now really missing her old bed at home. Her first day at The University of RayBourne had been a good one and she enjoyed it. It was clear that Storm liked his new temporary home as well, but he still did miss Destiny, he beloved paddock mate.

Isabella was sharing a dorm room with a girl who introduced herself as Hannah Ward yesterday. She was very nice and Isabella could see herself becoming friends with her.

Isabella got out of bed and decided to get ready for the day. This morning, she had a lecture on grooming and tack education, the same thing she did last year for the year twelve equine studies camp. She knew that the lecture last year was just an introductory one and it helped Isabella decide that she liked it.

And it seemed that her being up disturbed Hannah from her sleeping.

"Sorry," Isabella whispered.

"That's okay," replied Isabella, "my alarm was going to go off in a couple of minutes, anyway."

"Oh, good. I have a lecture at eight this morning and I want to say hi to Storm as well."

"Sounds good, well, not the lecture part. But seeing Storm would be good."

Isabella laughed. Seeing Storm always made her happy.

"Do you want to meet at the library for lunch?" asked Hannah.

"Okay, that sounds good. See you at twelve?" replied Isabella.

"Perfect."

"Great, see you then."

When Isabella was dressed, she quickly went to the kitchen to make herself a piece of toast and grab a carrot to give to Storm. Isabella smiled. She liked being at The University of RayBourne, but she missed her friends very much. She also didn't like seeing Lucy James, the niece of the founder of the university, everywhere she went.

Isabella scowled as she walked into the large barn on the campus. Lucy had Melody, her beautiful palomino mare, cross tied at the entrance. Lucy seemed oblivious to Isabella's glare.

"Good morning," Lucy said brightly. But it was so fake. She didn't like Isabella at all. It was because Lucy was rich and Isabella wasn't. The only reason Isabella was here was because she won a scholarship; everything had been paid for on her behalf, and Lucy said she didn't do a thing to earn her place. It made Isabella so mad because she worked hard to win the scholarship.

"Morning," Isabella simply replied.

Isabella didn't want to say anything else to Lucy so she just walked past after she said good morning, not making eye contact with her. As soon as Isabella reached Storm's stall, she couldn't help but smile and feel better. He walked up to his owner and hung his head over the half door. Isabella gave her a horse a hug and fed him the carrot that she had picked up for him. He didn't even have to think about wanting it because it was food and he loved food. Isabella gave Storm one last pat, not wanting to leave him, but also knowing that she needed to be on time to her lecture.

...

At lunch time, Isabella went and brought herself a ham and cheese croissant and walked to the library where she would wait for Hannah. She stood at the front of the library and kept her eye out for Hannah. Isabella was looking forward to meeting Hannah. So far, Hannah seemed a lot like Isabella and both girls had a lot in common. She wasn't rich and she came from a country town, just as Isabella did. She also won a scholarship, but she earnt it in a different way than Isabella; her community. Her small community helped her get into the prestigious university.
