A Renegades reveal

Together Part 7

Nova POV

"Why do you care so much about killing Nightmare?" The question slipped out before she could stop it. 

"I don't want to kill her I just wanted to ask you some questions" Adrian said with his head down. "I guess I always imagined taking her to jail afterwards but you never died."

"You fantasized about this stuff? Seriously dude that is weird" said Danna

Nova was completely confused. But she knew that she couldn't let either of them out unless they both swore that they wouldn't tell anybody. She knew that if Oscar and Ruby had been the ones to find out they would have been put to sleep and shot. They would never even consider helping her over the Renegades, and until recently she would have thought the same of Danna. She had seen Ace at his highs and lows, but still didn't think that he was the monster society said he was, and Danna's mouth did a strange twitching thing when she lied so Nova knew she was telling the truth.

But Adrian. She had no idea. 

"If you answer my question I will protect your secret,"

"Phobia"

"What?"

"The answer to your question" 

"I didn't even ask it"

"Were you going to ask who killed lady Indomitable?"

Adrian nodded 

"Then you have your answer" then Adrian did something that Nova hadn't expected. He hugged her, no just a friendly hug but one full of love innocence and relief.

"Okay lovebirds, break it up" said Danna from behind them

"I'll help you" said Adrian 

"You realize that I will almost certainly have to kill or neutralize your dads right?"

"Okay maybe not with that"

"We need to get you a villain disguise and a new Alias and new powers so that no one will suspect Sketch or the Sentinel." 

"Well I'm not getting one" said Danna "I probably won't do much more than cover for you"

"Thats okay Danna" said Nova "also Adrian, are you sure your okay with this?"

"Not completely, but I agree, things need to be run differently, the Renegades were just fine as superheroes but they make awful government officials."

"Thanks Sketch"

"You know what" said Danna "I'm just going to get out of here, I have a feeling you lovebirds want fo be left alone" and moments later they were by themselves.

"So who is this new villain I will be working with?" Nova asked

"Well I was thinking, maybe storm manipulation, you know lightning, wind, heavy rain. My alias could be Cyclone. I would of course have to keep it down to one power or Ruby and Oscar would suspect but it seems powerful enough."

"It does" Nova said "I'm glad you didn't freak out Cyclone"

"Oh I freaked out, I just freaked out so intensely that it wasn't perceptible to human senses"

"Ok I'm just happy you're here now" they sat in silence for a while, just enjoying eachother's company. Then Adrian asked 

"Why did you try to kill max?"

"I didn't, I wouldn't, I care about max, he is a great kid, I wasn't trying too hurt him that night, Genissa Clark was the one that injured him. I was just trying help him." 

"All that for a helmet?"

"No that night was supposed to be so much more, that night was supposed to be the end, but things always go wrong in times of war and the helmet wasn't a bad battle to win." Nova glanced over at the bronze helmet sitting on the velvet covered bed. 

"How does it work?" Adrian asked

"It makes me more powerful, I can run faster, throw harder, and even see clearer. It also makes me less likely to ge hurt, but most importantly it ups my power, I just discovered that I no longer need skin to skin contact to put people to sleep." 

"Wow it is powerful"

"Yes probably more powerful than anything else on earth, but that doesn't me we will win, last time Ace had the Helmet and he still lost. I've never told anyone else but I'm scared Cyclone I am scared that I will fail, and the people of the city will be not better off than they were before"

 "I'm here for you Nova, I won't let that happen"

"Am I your little Nightmare?" She asked

"You will always be my little Nightmare" he said as he pulled her into a tight embrace.

It is felt good to hear someone call her that again.

I honestly have no clue but I still have some Ideas so I might keep writing
